Six Open’s feature on Towcester’s Sunday Afternoon ten race card

Towcester stages Open Race action this afternoon with six Opens forming part of the ten race card, and it could be a good afternoon for Patrick Janssens. Fresh from his victory in the StarSports/TRC Greyhound Derby last weekend with Droopys Plunge, Janssens looks to have solid claims of scoring in all five of the races he has runners in.

The first of the Open’s kicks off the afternoon card at 1.57pm where Janssens could get off the mark straight away with the likely short priced favourite NOT SO SLOW running from Trap 5. His unbeaten run of four over course and distance was ended by the unbeaten Shadow Storm in the final of the Time Greyhound Nutrition Sprint Trophy on Derby final night last Saturday.

He has a best time of 15.45 on the card, which gives him plenty in hand with the rest of the field and a decent break can see him hard to beat. A likely danger could arrive in the shape of kennelmate Yahoo Megan in trap 3. She has been off since March having been in season and moved well in a recent trial and could go close if able to improve on that run again here. Belmullet Boozer in trap 2 has also been running well of late and could feature if able to lead on the rails.

Romeo Steel has been in fantastic form of late, winning all four starts since suffering a Second Round exit of the Derby, including when landing the final of the BGBF Truframe Champion Stakes over course and distance on Derby Final night and he will likely go to the traps at 2.33pm as a short priced favourite in his bid to land the five-timer from trap . However, Kevin Hutton may have a useful youngster on his hands with the lightly raced KRANKY DRAKE

I was really impressed with his winning performance here last week, overcoming a slow start and showing good backstraight pace to take up the lead before powering clear in the later stages for a 7 ¼ length victory. Yes, this is a step up in class from that field, but he falls into the could be anything category, and with a vacant trap inside, he could have all the room required to produce a similar performance. Romeo Ability, running from Trap 1, is also looking to land the five-timer, and he too won on Derby Final night, making all the running to land the JR Racing Puppy Trophy Final and can’t be ruled out from scoring again if close enough to likely leader Romeo Steel rounding the final bends.

Romeo Alliance, who finished third in that race behind Romeo Ability last week, will be looking to get back to winning ways again in the 2.52pm contest from trap 3, and if he can hit the front again in the early stages, then this October 23 youngster could take all the beating for the Janssens kennel, though he may just fine Mike Burton’s DROOPYS SUPRSTAR too strong for him on the run for home.

Often slow into stride over four bends, Burton’s runner stays on well in the later stages and despite a tricky looking draw in trap 4, if the gaps can open up at the vital times, then Droopys Suprstar could pounce on the run for home. Laurence Tuffin’s Fabulous Livia looks set to lead on the rails in the early stages and is more than capable of making all the running herself if able to build up a decent looking advantage.

The 3.29pm contest is one of the more trickier Opens on the card but ZENITH SULTAN in trap 2, trained by Richard Rees, could get off the mark at his third attempt. He stayed on well behind the well fancied Faypoint Harvey last weekend and if he can negotiate a clear passage when rounding the opening bends here, then he could prove too strong for these in the later stages. Da Monster in trap 4, trained by Afzal Ali makes his debut on the back of a good looking sprint trial and if able to build up an early lead here, then he could take plenty of catching.

The stayers take their turn at 3.49pm over the 712m distance. Peter Harnden’s SALACRES BELLEZA nearly landed a gamble in the Fox Sports Surfacing Dorando Marathon over 942m last weekend. Having led at the fifth bend, she was just outstayed by Alright Patricia in the final strides and will be looking to land some compensation for that run dropping back down in distance. If able to hit the front here from trap 2, it would take some effort to deny her this time. Breton Molly has a tricky looking draw to overcome in trap 4 for Patrick Janssens, but one of her better breaks could see her hitting the front and if that were to be the case, then she could be the one they all have to beat

The final Open goes to the traps at 4.26pm and looks to be a real headscratcher. On the basis of staying on well when a beaten favourite last week, the vote goes to Kevin Hutton’s RESONATE in trap 5. She has been staying on well in defeat in recent weeks and has just the one win to her name, but most of these runners have their stamina doubts or aren’t proven over this distance, but that’s not the case for Resonate and may prove too strong for this field. Kevin Boon’s Skirk Joshua looks set to lead this field out wide in the early stages from trap 6 and if able to build a decent lead, then he may prove tough to reel in.
