Mongys Wild is the star of the show at Hove on Saturday as the seaside track counts down to a major double-header, starting next week.
Mark Wallis’s St Leger, Regency and TV Trophy winner will be looking to consolidate his Greyhound of the Year aspirations in a trial stakes for the George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Memorial - one of a host of opens at the Sussex venue, which also includes a trial stakes for the Coral Olympic.
The track itself has undergone major improvements to the drainage system and is back racing after 10 days of work undertaken by Josh Sealey and his team.
Saturday’s opens will be the first since normal fixtures returned on Wednesday and another busy weekend at Hove is on the cards - they are racing both Saturday and Sunday.
The last major competition there was the Coral Gold Collar won by Paul Young’s Noellie - due to trial before racing on Saturday - and the Romford handler is back with runners on the card.
His Droopys Alldeway, who won the dual distance final on Gold Collar afternoon, runs in the Olympic trial stakes. Both the Coral Olympic (515m) and George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Memorial (740m) close to entries noon on Monday with heats on Saturday. Both are worth £10,000 to the winner.
In addition to Noellie, trials on Saturday include a reappearance from Richard Rees’s Arc Scurry Gold Cup winner Shadow Storm and Tom Heilbron’s Derby semi-finalist Droopys Bookem who makes the journey from the north east.
