The 2025 TCS London Marathon takes place this Sunday, April 27 and a couple of familiar faces from the greyhound racing world will be taking in the sights of London whilst trying to complete the 26.2-mile course.
As reported a couple of weeks ago, Towcester trainer Michelle Brown is looking to improve on her time of 3 hours 24 minutes which she set last year and has a target of 3 hours 15 minutes to complete the course this year as she has gone through the £2,000 target which she set to raise funds for Whittingham Retired Greyhounds.
Also joining her at the start in Blackheath is Rob Howe, who is part of the successful owners group J R Racing, who own greyhounds with Romford trainer Maxine Locke, and were joint sponsors of the Maiden Derby at Towcester, which was won by Hello Diego, trained by Paul Hennessy, on Sunday.
Howe is part of a 31 strong team who are looking to raise £60,000 for the Sammy Jo Brandon Foundation which supports Children With Cancer UK and are well on their way to doing so as they approach the £39,000 mark. If you would like to make a donation, then click here
Howe is no stranger to pounding the streets of London as he explained, “This is my seventh London Marathon, and my training has gone very well. I’ve set myself a target of breaking 3 hours which I’m hopeful of doing, as I say the training has gone well and I’ve broken a few personal bests in some prep races so I’m in good shape for Sunday”
J R Racing have a few runners that will be heading to Towcester for a tilt at the Derby with Maxine Locke, but there is one runner in particular that Howe is keen on
He said “I think Ballymac Axel has a massive chance in the Derby and is still available at 100/1. He went well in a trial at Towcester yesterday over the sprint distance and won well in the Con & Annie Kirby Memorial first round a few weeks ago. He’s only a May 23 and we think a lot of him”
