"If you’ve got the right type of dog, you can certainly win here first time" - Dave Gray on Star Pelaw

A pair of winners for George Stark at Star Pelaw had not seen the track before which Racing Manager Dave Gray is hoping will bust the myth that all dogs need a look at the track.

Star Pelaw first time around is no issue for Stark pair

Star Pelaw racing manager David Gray said Newcastle trainer George Stark’s double there on Sunday underlined the fact not all runners require a look at the north east venue to strike gold.

“If you’ve got the right type of dog, you can certainly win here first time - and George showed that on Sunday,” said Gray.

“He sent a strong team here on Sunday with two winners from ten runners - and it was great to welcome him back here. He had just two runners here last year with one winner, but has beaten that total already with Havana Special (15.06, 245m) and Millhill May (26.03, 435m) both winning.

“Both were making their Star Pelaw debuts and once again helped to bust the myth of greyhounds needing a look round before competing here.”

Gray said two other performances of note on the night came from Glenn Foot’s pair of Travel Safe and Caister Kay.

“Both were impressive in winning their respective races having switched from Craig Morris’s kennel at Yarmouth,” added the track’s RM.

“They both had a sighter in a trial last week but stepped up with wins in 25.70 (435m) and 14.70 (245m) respectively.

“There were also doubles on the bumper 14-race card for Stuart Tighe in graded contests and Daniel Bell in opens.”
