Sentinel too Slick at Hove

There was a treble for Patrick Janssens at Hove on Thursday evening, with two of his big guns sparkling in the Coral Dual Distance Trophy.

Derby semi-finalist Slick Sentinel was simply stunning in landing heat two in a flying 28.82 (+10) byh a staggering 12 lengths.

The 4/9 favourite showed his electric early speed to go round in front before opening a huge lead and he crossed the line well clear of Scooby Pacemaker, with Soul Choice a further two lengths back in third.

Romeo Tomcat (4/6fav) followed up his Derby Plate success by landing the first heat in 29.08 (+10) by a length and three-quarters from Kelvins Hat and Kevins Rocket.

Janssens initiated the three-timer when Romeo Empire (1/5fav) confirmed himself as a serious six-bend contender when landing the third heat of the Coral 695 Stayers Trophy with ease.

A winner over 712m at Towcester on Derby final night, Romeo Empire quicky assumed command and never looked like being caught as he scored by four lengths from Unthinkable in 41.62.

The first two heats both went the way of Seamus Cahill, whose Harlequin Beauty (7/2) upset 4/11 chance Breton Molly by a short head to land the first instalment in 42.21.

Art Riddler left it late to justify 13/8 favouritism in heat two but managed to do so by a head from Swift Jarvis in 41.82.

Cahill completed a treble of his own when Curtin Raiser scored at 5/1 in the Coral 285 Maiden Sprint Trophy final.

The 5/1 chance built on his success in the heats when racing into the lead at the first bend and going on to beat Emmas Bee by three and three-quarter length in 16.44 (+5),

Curtin Raiser was won by Dave Branch’s Branch Out Racing syndicate in a raffle held in memory of the late Pat Curtin and the June 2023 whelp looks to have a bright future.

March On Freddie was a red-hot 4/9 favourite for the Coral 515 Trophy final but it was his namesake, Uncle Freddie, who came out on top.

Rapido Ali set the early fractions and when Queen Shakira took it up at the third bend, March On Freddie and Uncle Freddie were looming large in pursuit of the leader.

However, it was the latter who finished best, as the Richard Rees-trained dog switched to the outside and stayed on strongly to collar Queen Shakira for a three-quarters-of-a-length success in 29.94 (+10), with March On Freddie a further length back in third.

Ronnies Oscar claimed the scalp of Broadway Murty when recording a surprise 16/1 success victory over 285m in 16.41 (+5), while Jason Heath closed the card with a double in maiden contests.

First up was his Jesse Gee James, who powered home to beat the well-fancied Boom Boom Bullet over 500m in 29.95 (+10), then Southafrikka won the maiden sprint at 7/1 as she stopped the clock at 16.55 (+5).

Jackson lands a thriller a Newcastle

There was a trial stakes for the upcoming Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat at Newcastle, where Romeo Jackson prevailed in an exciting finish.

One of three runners in the race for Tom Heilbron, the 11/4 winner had plenty on his hands going down the far side as he sat in third behind the trailblazing Trooper Mcevoy and CahermoneBest.

The winner really began to motor turning for home and flew up the home straight to deny Trooper Mcevoy by a neck in 28.65.
