Just a week to go until the Centenary of Greyhound Racing meeting at Dunstall Park
Next Friday night is the Dunstall Park meeting to celebrate 100 years of greyhound racing. Trials are picking up pace at the Wolverhampton venue ahead of the gala evening.

Dunstall trials picking up pace for next Friday's centenary card
Arthur Bitter, the Juvenile Classic winner, trials at Dunstall Park on Saturday in preparation for the 100 Years On Track centenary meeting at Wolverhampton Racecourse on Friday, July 24.
Patrick Godfrey’s youngster joins a number of big names being lined up for the six-race gala which reflects the first meeting under rules at Belle Vue, Manchester, on July 24, 1926.
Each race will be worth £1,926 apiece and Arthur Bitter, who has the target of the Puppy Classic next month, is being aimed at the youngsters’ contest at Dunstall Park.
Others due to trial at Dunstall Park on Saturday include Towcester runner-up Annadown Warrior and his kennelmate at Maxine Locke’s Headford Dane, last year’s Monmore Puppy Derby and Gold Cup champion. Nathan Hunt’s 3 Steps runner-up Goldcash Warrior is also due to have a spin.
There were some smart trials at the track yesterday with a single spot between Paul Young's Gav Nificent and Mark Wallis's Strike It Skye for the best time over 480m. The latter beat Vhagar in a trial with that bitch aiming at the stayers race on the card.
Young had his Droopys Rated take a spin over six bends, with his time around three lengths shy of what Bluejig Outlaw has been producing in the Category Two Stayers event at the track of late but this was a first ever look at the track for the TV Trophy winner.

Dunstall Park reminds anyone wishing to attend the gala fixture on July 24 that tickets are still available.
These include a three-course dinner, 1920s themed entertainment with the GBGB also displaying a range of items from its archive collection – from old photographs to historic trophies – showcasing the rich history of greyhound racing throughout the decades.
Race entries close at 11am on July 20. In addition to winner’s prizes of £1,926, all other runners will receive £192.60. Winning connections will also receive a commemorative trophy and racing jacket.
The six-race card comprises: 480m Puppy (sponsored by Arc), 660m (Entain), 270m (Racecourse Promoters Association), 480m British Bred (SIS), 925m (JenningsBet) and 480m (Premier Greyhound Racing).
Tickets for the Centenary Gala are priced at £75 per person. To purchase, contact [email protected] or call 020 7822 0920.
