Savana runner leads Brown-trained five-timer

There will be no kennel who has enjoyed the reopening of Suffolk Downs more than that of Michelle Brown. 21 open race winners have been obtained at the track in the first month of being back in action from just 65 runners, a 32.3% clip. They included another five last night from the 11 open race contests.

Savana Kilauea has taken well to the venue, winning four of his five runs there, topping the 388m times last night with a 23.62 effort. He was the shortest priced winner of the night at 8/13, with those who took the short odds never having a moment of doubt after he took the lead early on.

The night kicked off with a good battle between Brown's Golden Acre and Farney Millie for Kevin Boon, with the market unable to separate the pair. The former got on top early and fended off the longtime challenge of her market rival.

Bucking Bucks was the other winner over four bends for the kennel, making it three straight wins at the track. Gothic Cheyenne picked up the only sprint on the card, racing for just the second time for the kennel. Brown also picked up one of the eight-bend races with Azzas Angel who had been keeping better company at Doncaster and Romford of late.

The other 716m contest went to Jason Ray's Intrepidity who caused the shock of the night when winning at 14/1. It was her first time greeting the judge since the second half of back-to-back wins at Star Pelaw in May and June.

Three of the four races over 548m were split by just 10 spots. Moaning Martini was marginally the quickest of them for Darren Whitton, clocking 34.21. Indian Floyd made it a perfect 3/3 at the track with a one spot slower winning time for Jason Gornall. Both of those made every yard of the running which was not the case for Jason Smith's Westfield Vicky. She missed the break but had things firmly under control by the third bend, coming home in 34.31.

Devilsbit Rose was the odd one out over six bends in terms of the times but the Paul Rea team won't mind that, with their charge timing her challenge well to get her head in front late on. Kevin Boon was responsible for the other open race winner on the night in the shape of Farneys Tearaway.

Strike doubles up but Leon shines brightest at Star Pelaw

At 1/3, Unanimous Leon was only one for the heavy hitters at Star Pelaw but Tom Heilbron's star was only 13 spots off his October success which leads all times at the track this year over 435m. It was a drop in class compared to competing in the Premier Greyhound Racing Classic final on his most recent start at Sunderland and he took full advantage of that.

There was a double on the night for Graham Strike courtesy of Fantastic Dear and Deacon Kissy. The pair were both sent off at 7/1, so hopefully someone had a few quid on the double!

The former has plenty of sub five second sectionals at Sunderland to her name, so it wasn't a surprise to see her capable of better turning to two bends for the first time. The latter had bounced back to form at her home track last time out with an A3 win, having been A1 not so long ago.

Favourite Rogue landed the other open sprint. Stuart Tighe's youngster is a perfect 4/4 over 245m at the track, run down by a solid yardstick in Ainster Jim the last time that he ran over four bends.

A six-bend contest went to Sheilas Sky for Colin Campbell. It was her third win from five starts over track and trip in a career that has only spanned 10 starts to this point. The half-sister to Naochra should be adding plenty more wins here through 2026.
