Ladbrokes Winter Derby ante-post tips

The Ladbrokes Winter Derby starts on Saturday night at Monmore, with the opening prices in the outright market suggesting that this is a wide open competition.

Ladbrokes Winter Derby

This is a seriously deep edition of the Ladbrokes Winter Derby. All six heats could be mistaken for semi-final worthy contests so it is no surprise to see the prices so wide open. Hopefully, we will be treated to an exceptional final on February 21. Prices are with the sponsors and are correct at time of writing.

Two against the field

Santas Amigo 8/1

The Classic and All England Cup winner heads to Monmore in search of a quickfire hat-trick of Category One wins. He has not produced the sectionals that perhaps he can here given what he did at Newcastle, but that potentially leaves a little in the tank to come. Given he produced a slick 28.18 in a trial, that would spell danger for his rivals.

Texas Jack 12/1

Monmore might not be the ideal track for him but the Kent Derby runner-up is a class act. He shaped well enough behind Droopys Aladdin in a trial stake and although he meets that rival again in the opening round, he should have enough to be able to progress. One of just seven wide runners in the competition, he should get something like his draw as he makes his way though the rounds.
