Lord Lipsey dies, aged 77
David Lipsey, the former chair of the GBGB, has died at the age of 77.
Matt Purvis, Head of Research Services at the House of Lords, reported the sad news on X on Wednesday afternoon.
A long-time greyhound racing lover, Lord Lipsey was most recently the chair of Premier Greyhound Racing, a role from which he stepped after three years in March due to ill health.
Star Sports Group Chairman, Sir Phillip Davies, lead the tributes by saying on X: “So very sorry to read this. David was a very dear friend who I worked very closely with (across the political aisle) on a number of causes. He was a great champion of both horseracing and greyhound racing, and both sports have lost a true ally and supporter. I will miss him.”
A former journalist and political adviser, Lipsey was Special Adviser to Tony Crosland until the latter’s death in 1977, and then to Jim Callaghan as Prime Minister.
