Monday Night Nottingham Open Report

Five Open Races featured on Nottingham’s twelve race card on Monday Evening, the highlight of which was The ARC Maiden Standard Trophy Final worth £500 and it went the way of the Swindon raider Malcolm Bosh, trained by Angie Kibble

Victory looked to be unlikely for Kibble’s July 23 youngster as he produced a typically slow break and was last into the opening bends, and it was Esther Driver’s 33/1 shot Skyfall Maybe who looked to cause a surprise when building up a two-length lead down the back. That lead was cut down to a length off the last bend when Driver’s other runner Outdoor Yankee came to challenge, but it was Malcolm Bosh (8/1) who produced a strong finish down the middle and reeled in Skyfall Maybe in the shadow of the post, with the winning distance given as a neck, in a time of 29.89 (+60).

Driver had been on target in the previous contest when Mossrich Karen (4/11F) may have given those who backed her at short prices a bit of a scare, when she made all the running over 305m in 17.91 (+20), making it two wins out of two over this distance, with the distance only being a neck as Kim Billingham-Hine’s Tommy’s Target found trouble when coming to challenge and may go down as an unlucky loser.

Billingham-Hine was to go one place better later on in the evening over the same 305m distance when her August 23 puppy Newinn Bachelor (6/5F) showed a good burst of early pace and took advantage of some crowding on the inside at the first bend to hit the front and build up a race winning lead, crossing the line 1 ¾ lengths clear in 17.80 (+20) to land Heat One of the Nottingham-greyhounds.co.uk Maiden Sprint Trophy.

Heat two was a tight affair with Sharon Saberton making the journey up from Harlow a worthwhile one as her Tinks Jester (5/2) got the better of the front running Headford Babs by a short head, when reeling in the leader on the line with a winning time of 18.13 (+20)

The final Open Race was over the 500m distance and saw two old rivals going head to head again as Jetstream Breeze and Sambar Kian faced off again, with Sambar Kian looking to confirm the form of last weeks victory. However, it was Peter Hollands Jetstream Breeze (4/5F) who got the better of things this week, coming out on top in a scrappy contest, reeling in his rival Sambar Kian close home by a neck, with a winning time of 29.93 (+50)
