Mongys Wild has Team Wallis off the mark in 2026

The writing was on the wall from an early stage in the final of the Arena Racing Company Cesarewitch as Mongys Wild turned handy to the speed, and more importantly without a bump from any of his rivals. From there, it was a matter of how far, taking up the running at the fifth bend from long time leader Romeo Empire who had given things a good go from off the front.

Mark Wallis has described Mongys Wild as the best stayer that he has had, and while the debate on X will rage on when it comes to where he ranks in the history of the sport, there is little doubt that when he is on his game, he is an absolute monster of a greyhound.

Romeo Empire kept on for second for Patrick Janssens with Deadly Disco running on late to grab third for Richard Rees after missing the kick at the worst possible time. Princess Matilda briefly led them early on before the big guns came to the fore with Burgess Sophia whipping them in.

The time was 43.65, just the second clocking under 44 seconds at the track since the distance was changed, the other being Droopys Flare's 43.87 when winning her heat of this competition last year.

There was a treble on the undercard for Maxine Locke over three different distances. It was kicked off over six bends by Bluejig Outlaw who was not helped by a draw in the one box but had enough natural ability to find his way past the field from the back, running out an impressive winner.

A sprint contest went to Beaming Isla who had shown some of the best form of her life at the track in the past, notably when making the final of the Silver Salver last summer. She was right on her game at the traps, leading up and giving her rivals no chance of running her down again.

The final race of the night went to Razldazl Myway, a contest that was messy early but he had shown the necessary gears on the run-up to get away from them avoiding the trouble behind.

Aside from Mongys Wild, the most impressive winner of the night was Dave Lee's Bluejig Baron. He was the meat in a sandwich at the opening bend and then was hampered again at the second, entering the back straight 10 lengths off the runaway leader. While that leader is a short runner, it was a remarkable run from the likeable veteran to get himself to the front, just holding off the late thrust of Lets Go Girl.

Lee had opened the night up with another impressive winner in the form of Brunch Pal. In a tight-knit run to the opening bend, he showed plenty of courage to nose his way up the inside at the turn and skip clear down the back. His 28.78 was comfortably the best time over 491m on the night.

There was also a double on the evening for Barry O'Sullivan in a pair of 664m contests. They were won differently with Good Rainbow pacing up best and making most of the running while Harlequin Taluka needed the majority of the trip to get his head in front.

Roanna Mamba picked up another sprint win for Michelle Brown, giving the team some compensation for missing out on the Cesarewitch final after having to withdraw Crafty Prospero, though Central Park still provided the finalist table in the restaurant for them which was decent. He's won four in a row at the Kent track now and 11 of his last 13 races overall.

Ricky Holloway introduced a nice type to the UK with Borna Show, running riot by seven and a half lengths on his debut here. His Irish form behind the likes of Coosane Pickles and Ballinabola Joe at Shelbourne in October showed the level of ability he possesses and he should go onto better things now.

It was a smart display from the front from Snowdon Mel, landing the JenningsBet Maiden final. She had got the job done in similar style in the heats, with her 29.11 win last night a career best from the Julie Luckhurst-trained litter sister to Ballinakill Liam.

There were some half decent chances on the card for the Dan Brabon team but they had to wait until the third to last race to land a winner with Bumble Belles. The other open on the card went to Dean Childs and Distant Ten who held on in a three way go to the line to land a maiden contest.

Foot treble at Star Pelaw plus doubles for Blackbird and Heilbron

A full set of opens at Star Pelaw saw a treble for the Glenn Foot kennel comprised of Burrow Bell, Untold Ariary and Moanteen Pudding. The first of those has been in flying form since the autumn, winning nine of her last 15 starts. Her 25.84 was the only winning time over four bends on the card than dipped below 26 seconds.

Untold Ariary is another who has been in exceptional form. A defeat in the opening round of the Coral Essex Vase is the only one that she has on her card in the last seven starts. There is still limited milage on the clock and the feeling is that there is a bigger effort still in her.

The last race on the card completed the treble with Moanteen Pudding making most of the running. She has been alternating wins and defeats for a while now, interesting to see if she continues that with a defeat next time or whether she can break the cycle and go back-to-back.

There was an early double on the card for Dean Blackbird from Eden Dolly and Bashful Pebbles, the latter appropriately in the Craig Blackbird Memorial Trophy. She's a progressive sprinter and still has a little while left as a puppy. The first named showed nice early gears to score for the third time in four starts.

Tom Heilbron was another to pick up a double on the card, his coming from Rebel George and Links Jester. On an evening where it was hard to make up ground from off the pace the pair both made the best of their way home having hit the front at an early stage.

Inclement Queen was a very taking winner on her race debut, victorious in a sprint contest for Ronald Knights. A litter sister to the smart Sunnyside Ted, from the Skate On line, she looks to have plenty of speed herself and should be one to follow.

The market struggled to split Here Comes Bob and Wanted Tibet in a 435m contest. The pair paced up together but the former came away to win by five and a half lengths for John Watson. Matthew Watson picked up a winner from Marymount Joy in a sprint and Robert Galloway was successful in the other open on the night with Gallarus Sniper.

Samuels and Morris take the Yarmouth opens

Just two open races on the afternoon card at Yarmouth yesterday. Erica Samuels took the 462m contest with Kereight Fraud, beating 2025 track champion Laugh Alot. She has now won 24 of her 75 career starts, with this her sixth success in an open contest.

The other open was a sprint contest which went to Rockmount Dale for Craig Morris. He has made a very tidy start to his career, 5/11 since arriving at Yarmouth to supplement his win in a single start at Waterford.
