New track record for Towcester's 460m distance

Forgottotellya sets a new 460m clock at Towcester

The 460m distance got another new record setter at the top of the tree yesterday in Mark Wallis's Forgottotellaya. He had looked a really nice recruit when he bolted up over 500m at this track on his debut for the kennel before following up in a heat of the Gymcrack. Things have not always gone right since, but he clearly has an engine to go to war with.

Wallis got his day started right with a sprint win from Pavilion Team. He is only five weeks away from veteran status but he has enjoyed another successful campaign, scoring for the sixth time in 2026. This is very much his favourite track and a 15.74 suggests that there is still plenty of fun to be had with him.

Things have not gone right of late for Poly Styrene, missed breaks and bumps have seen her hit the woodwork against some very smart performers. Her task yesterday looked an easier one for her despite a wider than ideal draw, but she roared back to winning ways for Carol Weatherall, always in control of her field to come away by seven lengths. 

She was bringing up a double for Weatherall after Tre Cool had scored earlier on the card, showing plenty of guts to hold his line on the inside of Droopys Berries when it looked for all the world as if he was about to get chopped off by the Kevin Hutton-trained runner. A litter brother to Poly Styrene, it's been a great week for the litter, with Zappa scoring last Monday at Nottingham as well. 

A stayers contest saw victory for Angie Kibble's Malcolm Bosh. He was typically slow to stride but he managed to get a clean run around the opening couple of bends to produce his best sectional in his five starts at the track, heading into the third bend in a much more prominent position than usual. Hutton's Tooreen Rose had pinged out to set the fractions but she was just run down in the shadow of the post.

Hutton did manage to pick up a winner earlier on the card with Velvet Isabelle putting more than four lengths into her rivals in a 460m contest. She was making just the third start of her career and her first since getting knocked over at this track a month ago. From a very decent family, her half-sister Baroness Velvet was runner-up in the Empress Stakes last year for Hutton.

Michelle Brown was on the scoresheet thanks to Goldcash Prince. A very slick 3.80 split saw him quickly get on the bunny while a little bit of first bend bumping saw his kennelmate Lincoln Impact get held up enough so as not to be able to run him down. An open race winner over four and six bends at Suffolk Downs, the victor has a nice blend of speed and stamina for this sort of test.

There was a surprise for punters late in the day when Patrick Godfrey's Arthur Itus popped out in front in a sprint contest to take the win at 25/1. He had plenty of decent winning sprint form at Tralee but he had not managed to put it all together for Godfrey until this ninth start for his new handler. 

Parsonage off the mark with first open winner

Tromora Sand scored over 500m to give new trainer Karl Parsonage his first open race winner form just his second runner. A March 25 baby, he showed off some decent early pace to put the race to bed, chased home by a rock-solid and in-form yardstick in the veteran Westway Sailor. Parsonage had his first graded winner on July 3, so has quickly gone one better at the higher level.  

The 660m at Sheffield has a real track special in Diane Henry's Savanaregimental. Starting at 1/11, he won by the nine and three-quarters of a length that one of his odds should do. He currently has six wins from his last seven outings over this trip and boasts four of the top seven best times of the year.

A potential challenger for Savanaregimental in the coming weeks is So Its Strate. Lisa Stephenson's charge made his debut over the longer trip yesterday, relishing it as much as it looked like he would. It took him a while to get on top, as was the way when he was scoring over shorter, but his time was only 19 spots shy of the current 660m track champion. Game on! 

Sean Davy has had an excellent July, Trewmunt Slippy picking up a ninth open win for the kennel this month from 20 runners. He had made a successful English debut at the track last week, backing that up with a fluent display in another sprint contest. The winner of just one of his nine starts in Ireland, Davy clearly has him in a good place.

The big surprise on the card came in the opener where Kelly Hodson's Romeo Cobra sprung a 40/1 shock for punters. He has eight prior wins at this level for the kennel, so he is a smart sort but he had not been at his best since a success in early June. The race panned out well for his strong-running style, pouncing late around the outside to take home the gold.
