Kennel star Kian reached 2024 PGR Eclipse Final

NOTTINGHAM general manager David Evans has paid tribute to one of Colwick Park’s finest in trainer Colin Wilton, who died on Sunday. He was 66.

Colin, a trainer since 2003, had spells at Kinsley and Doncaster before joining Nottingham in 2012. He was a hugely popular figure at the east Midlands venue and his passing has been widely felt.

Evans said: “Everyone at Nottingham Greyhound Stadium will miss Colin, who was part of our lives for a long time. We offer our condolences to his family as well as our support.

“Although he had some health concerns this was totally unexpected and his family have asked for privacy during what is understandably a very upsetting time.”

A former supermarket salesman, the genial Wilton fulfilled an ambition when swapping his career in retail to become a professional greyhound trainer at his family-run base at Howden.

He proudly trained the prolific-scoring kennel star Sambar Kian to a place in last year’s Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse Final at Nottingham behind Romeo Command.
