The big race of the evening is the £12,500 to the winner Arena Racing Company Select Stakes at 8.54pm which see's six of the best greyhounds in the UK and Ireland lining up to take home the prize. Those six were selected by the GWA (Greyhound Writers Association) and each greyhound is more than capable of adding this big race to their c.v.
We take a look at the twelve race card and preview each contest, with the first race kicking off at 6.37pm.
An A3 graded contest kicks off what should be a fantastic evening of greyhound racing, and it could go the way of Rosie Jackell. Terry Munslow's greyhound was narrowly denied in her double bid last time out having made all the running in lower grade previously but if able to hit the front on the inside again, then she may just be able to hold on this time. Aslan, who is set to race in his 158th contest can stay on well in the later stages and could feature here for Jill Llewellin with a clear run rounding the opening bends
Terry Munslow's greyhound Swift Doireann suffered a costly defeat in this grade last time out but wasn't beaten too far despite finding trouble rounding the opening bends, but if she can gain a clearer passage in this field, she could land some compensation for that defeat, though Candle Mountain has a drop in grade in her favour and Peter Holland's early paced greyhound will look to take advantage if able to build up an early lead on the rails
Not much recent winning form to go by here so it could be the chance for Velvet Diana to get back to winning ways. Peter Holland's greyhound looks set to lead this field in the early stages and having ran well in defeat on several occasions of late, then she could make all the running for a deserved success. Of the rest, Cruiser Finn has had just the one start where he finished down the field and Jason Gray's October 23 youngster could take advantage with a clearer run in the early stages
Swift Home hasn't been beaten far in recent weeks despite finding trouble rounding the opening bends, but Terry Munslow's runner has chances to lead this field down the middle and if that's the case, then she could find herself getting back to winning ways, although Tally Ho Swift is lightly raced and looks to have a good draw on the rails, and Neil Chapman's greyhound looks to be a danger if he can turn the opening bends in a handy position
The first of the open race contests is worth £1000 to the winner and it would be a surprise if it didn't head the way of Nathan Hunt's greyhound Zebedee Cluasa, who was hugely impressive when making all the running over course and distance last week and has plenty in hand on the clock so if leading again, it would take something special to reel him in. Kennel-mate Cunnigar Yousir could prove to be the main danger but has a tricky looking draw to overcome on this occasion and may have to settle for the runner up position
The sprinters take their turn for the chance of winning £1000 here and it's a very competitive looking field. Chances can be given to most of the six runners, but based on the draw alone, the pick could be Newinn Souly running in the red jacket. Kim Billingham-Hine's greyhound has finished runner up in his last three starts but hasn't been beaten far in any of those contests and could land a deserved victory if able to sneak round the opening bends with the lead. Rental Crisis narrowly beat him last week and David Fradgley's greyhound will look to confirm that form and in doing so, landing the hat-trick, while Chris Fereday's Makeadifference made all the running last week down the middle and will look to repeat those tactics again here
The Arena Racing Company Puppy Classic Final worth £12,500 looks set to go the way of the Patrick Janssens trained greyhound Romeo Alliance. He is unbeaten in three starts round Nottingham including heats and semi final of this competition and looks ideally draw in trap one. With an early lead, he ought to take plenty of beating. Kevin Hutton's greyhound Kranky Drake has finished runner up behind him on two occasions of late and may be set for a similar scenario again here, but is sure to be staying on well late and could take advantage should Romeo Alliance not be at his best
The Arena Racing Company Select Stayers is just a four runner affair. This race isn't really a betting proposition though but it is the chance to watch one of the best staying greyhounds we have seen in recent years, Mongys Wild, doing what he does best. Mark Wallis's multiple Category One and track record holder is in a world of his own at present and would take some extraordinary to see him getting beaten in this field. Quite simply, just watch and enjoy him
The Arena Racing Company Select Stakes is worth £12,500 to the winner and on paper, looks to be a highly competitive contest, where cases for claims of victory could be built on all six of these runners. However, having often ran well without winning in these big race finals, it could finally be the time for Chelms Bear to taste big race success. He has to do things the hard way and will no doubt need some luck in running, but if he is close enough to the leaders when rounding the final bends, he could swoop late to land the prize. Graham Holland makes the trip to Nottingham from Ireland and his Silverhill Freya looks set to improve on last week's trial and if she hits the front in the early stages, then she could take some catching, as could either of the Patrick Janssens trained pair of Romeo Steel and Slick Sentinel if either of those were able to hit the front early, not forgetting the other Janssens greyhound Droopys Plunge, who made a winning comeback last week in his first race since winning the StarSports/TRC Derby at Towcester in June. He will no doubt improve for that run but has a tricky looking draw to overcome in this contest, while the Jimmy Fenwick trained Wicky Ned, the 2024 Greyhound of the Year and multiple Category One title winner completes the line up in what looks to be a fascinating contest
On paper, this looks to be a match up between the Patrick Janssens trained greyhound Romeo Ability and Kilmore Dancer, from the Mark Wallis kennel. Romeo Ability made a surprise exit at the semi final stage of the Arena Racing Company Puppy Classic last week and will be looking to get back to winning ways with an all the way success, but may just have to play second fiddle to Kilmore Dancer on this occasion. His confidence would have been boosted by a couple of recent victories and is sure to be staying on well in the later stages and may just prove too strong on the run for home
Romeo Tomcat may have been a little unlucky not to have been lining up in the Arena Racing Company Select Stakes a little earlier, but the Patrick Janssens trained greyhound could be set to land a little compensation for that with victory in this contest. He is capable of leading or coming from off the pace but if he were to get his head in front at any stage here, then he could take all the beating. Jason Gray's Loxleys Forest was only beaten three quarters of a length by the Derby winner Droopys Plunge last week, and he rates as a danger in this field from a plum looking draw, while Rackethall Brute is sure to be staying on well late and could be involved in the final outcome for trainer Mark Wallis with a clear passage early
A tricky looking contest for the evening's finale, but a chance could be taken on the Patrick Janssens greyhound Gundy. The October 23 youngster has finished down the field in both of his previous two starts but moved well enough in a recent sprint trial and if trapping on terms, will be looking to make all the running. Of the rest, Jill Llewellin's Platinumheatwave has been running well over two and four bends in recent weeks and could prove to be a danger if able to produce one of his better breaks again
