Oaks contenders set for trials at Dunstall Park this weekend

Dunstall Park set for deep renewal of the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks

Yarmouth Derby champion Aayamza Shazza trials at Dunstall Park on Saturday in preparation for the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks - playing her part in a top-class session there which also sees the reappearance of reigning champion Butlers Lane, plus Irish interest.

The news from Wolverhampton Racecourse is that two of Graham Holland's are set for workouts at the weekend with Ballydoyle Tina and Fahrenheit Jess scheduled to make the journey across the Irish Sea.

Ballydoyle Tina was last seen at Shelbourne Park when knocked out at the third round stage of the Irish Derby behind subsequent champion - and kennelmate - Bockos Gold. Fahrenheit Jess is a stakes winner at Shelbourne Park with a best of 28.36 in just three races for Holland.

Meanwhile, the John Mullins-trained Aayamza Shazza will reappear at Dunstall Park, some ten days after her success at Yarmouth in the 80th East Anglian Derby Grand Final. Her first Category One title landed, the well-bred sister of English Derby finalists Ballymac Ralf and Ballymac Duffle now eyes Classic glory.

Defending Oaks champion Butlers Lane is also set to trial on Saturday with connections admitting Barry Denby’s superb bitch, with a brilliant record at Dunstall Park, faces a race against time to be ready for her Oaks defence.

Off from March until her return at Doncaster last month when second, Butlers Lane features on a trials session which also includes last year’s third Raebella Bullet.

For 72 bitches across four rounds, the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks closes to entries on Tuesday with the heats on Saturday, October 3, the second round on Saturday, October 10, the semi-finals on Saturday, October 17, and the £20,000 final on Saturday, October 24.
