Produce Stakes winner bids for second Category One title
Jonathan Miles, owner of Sunday’s bet365 Challenge Cup finalist Eagles Respect, almost had double reason to cheer at Swindon’s meeting on Tuesday after Mohican Ruby won her second race at the Blunsdon venue - just 15 minutes before her sire Eze made his return to the track!
“I suppose that would’ve been something, daughter and then dad winning back-to-back races,” said Miles of an August 24 batch by Eze out of Mohican Tara.
“Ruby's doing great for Dalton Smith, as is her sister Mohican Hallie who won on her debut last week. But seeing Eze run in the very next race after Ruby ran was great, although he’s been off and definitely needed the run. He was in a sprint, too, and these days that’s too short for him at that level in all honesty.”
Eze, a super senior at Angie Kibble’s, has been a prolific scorer for the kennel over the years and made the Pall Mall final at Oxford in 2023. He is 25-time winner and that winning attitude has been passed down to his daughters already.
“We thought we’d have a go with him while he was off the track earlier this year and the litter is a cracker and, who knows, we might go again. It’s certainly a really good start. He’s got a profile and is passing that ability down clearly!”
On Sunday’s final at Oxford, Miles said of his Produce Stakes champion: “It’s a very, very good race and he’ll need to do everything right, getting first run on Romeo Empire and then trying to keep Vhagar at bay.
“It won’t be easy but we’ve been delighted how he’s stepped up in trip.”
