King Jackson changes hands
Pat Doocey is looking forward to getting started with his new recruit King Jackson.
The Monmore handler has recently acquired the son of Magical Bale from Liz and Rab McNair and he’s hopeful the dog can recapture his best form.
He has plenty of smart form in the book and Doocey is very happy with the condition the dog is in.
“He’s a very nice dog,” said Doocey,
“He’s come in very good shape from Rab McNair, very good shape indeed.
“That’s the first time I have really had a conversation with Rab – he’s a knowledgeable man about greyhounds and a straight-talking man as well.”
Having made the ARC Kent Plate final at Central Park earlier in the year, the April 2023 whelp also reached the ARC Kent Silver Salver decider there last month and he appears to still have plenty to offer.
The trainer added: “He is a nice dog and very easy to handle. He was a fast dog but I don’t know if he’s as fast as he was.
“On his best times, he’s a very fast dog, especially if you go back to his Central Park times. However, he has a couple of bad runs as well and maybe that’s why they moved him on, I am guessing.
“Hopefully, he’s still got the ability and will to win. I think he’s maybe one of these dogs who needs to be out and gone to win, but I don’t know enough about the dog just yet.”
King Jackson was last seen finishing fourth over 450m at Oxford on 12 July and he is set to make his debut for the Doocey kennel in a sprint open at Perry Barr this Saturday night.
Doocey explained: “I put him in for a race on Saturday and we’ll make a start, then see what happens. If he runs his best race then he’s capable of winning that race, but he could finish down the field and then we’ve nothing to talk about!
“We’ll know more about him on Saturday night.”
