New trip at Towcester is a step closer

Towcester has made steps towards introducing a new 460m trip at the home of the Star Sports & Orchestrate English Derby.

Josh Sealey, who has been masterminding changes at the Northamptonshire track in terms of track surface and general maintenance, revealed recently he had been working on installing a new 460m four-bend distance which would run alongside the 500m races at the venue.

Danny Rayment, Towcester’s racing manager, confirmed as such this week.

He said: We’ve a way to go, but that’s the intention. Josh and Derren (Sealey) have constructed a base and we’ve traps ready to go, but there’s still a few things to do before we can even think about a 460m race here.

“First, the GBGB need to come on site to ratify a new distance etc. Then we’ll be on our way, but it is getting closer. “It will give us another option grading-wise for those dogs who find the 500m too much of a challenge, and who find the sprints too short. It’s been a issue for some dogs here in the past and a 460m trip will alleviate that somewhat.

“Quite a few tracks do have the option - Sheffield and Nottingham - are two examples with their two four-bends trips, but it’s good to have that flexibility.”
