Southfield Poppy hits her rivals for six

There were five opens on Tuesday evening at Swindon, where Southfield Poppy continued her brilliant run of form by completing a six-timer.

After two wins at Perry Barr, Kevin Hutton’s bitch kept up the winning streak with three consecutive victories over the 476m trip at the Wiltshire track and she was sent off a 1/3 favourite to do the business again.

However, she didn’t have it all her own way as, after showing the early pace to turn in front, she was challenged by Baggios Intent from the third bend onwards.

Haverhill Lass also got into contention on the run-in and Southfield Poppy had to dig deep to hold Baggios Intent by a short head in 28.03, with Haverhill Lass a head back in third.

Southfield Duke ran out an easy winner in 28.03 when justifying 7/4 favouritism in Division A of the Blunsdon Standard.

Having turned alongside Arthur Lobster, Paul Foster’s dog quickly put the race to bed down the far side and came home four and a quarter lengths clear of that rival.

There was a bit of an upset in Division B, as 6/1 chance Salthill Sydney popped out and made all in 28.16 from odds-on favourite Cul Na Braithre, who flashed home after a slow start but was held by half a length at the line.

Eagles Respect (3/1) left it late in the Blundson Maiden Standard but got up in the shadow of the post to deny Ashway June by a head in 28.14, while Invergarry made all by five and a half lengths when landing the Blundson Maiden Stayers over 682m from Frankton Daisy in 41.35.
