Premier Greyhound Racing Regency the target for Romeo Empire

On Thursday evening, Star Sports / TRC English Greyhound Derby winning trainer Patrick Janssens sends a star-studded team down to the south coast where some of his Derby final night runners line up in various opens in preparation for the upcoming Category One Premier Greyhound Racing Regency and Coral Sussex Cup.

Speaking about Romeo Empire, Janssens said: “He came out of Towcester well. We thought about the 3 Steps To Victory at Sheffield but opted to come down to Hove with this as a prep for the Regency which starts soon. Bretons Molly also runs tomorrow evening and will head to the Regency as well.’’

Attention then turned to Romeo Tomcat who runs in the Coral Dual Distance Trophy heat tomorrow evening at 7.33. Janssens said: “He’s a serious dog with serious pace, he’s immature and still very young. After winning the Derby plate he will be aimed at the Category One Coral Sussex Cup with the long-term aim the 2026 Greyhound Derby. Towcester 500 or Hove 515 would be ideal for him. There were no suitable 515 opens this week so we put him in the dual distance competition.’’

Talking about Slick Sentinel, Janssens went on to say: “He’s in good form after Towcester. The 515-metre trial at Hove was a good one but one wrong move against these local runners at Hove, and you’re in trouble. "The Sussex Cup is his target, so it’s good to get down and get a couple of runs into him.’’

Romeo Kingpin was next on the agenda. Janssens had this to say: “He’s a good little dog; he’s a 16.30 type over this 285-metre trip, so it will suit him. He doesn’t run certain tracks and doesn’t stay the 500 metres at Towcester.''
