Romford open race treble for Paul Young on Friday with doubles for Dave Lee and Martyn Wiley
There was open class racing at both Romford and Sunderland on Friday night with the Paul Young team coming out of the former with a treble.

Underground Fizz stars for Young at Romford
It was a hat-trick of 575m wins for Underground Fizz to close out the evening's racing at Romford. However, the contrast to the previous two weeks was notable as she led up Fabulous Sonique this time around rather than having to chase her down.
From that position on the bunny, she put more than nine lengths into her old rival, though that was extended beyond what it should've been with Easy Molly hampering Fabulous Sonique on the run-in. It was a fourth win in eight 575m starts for the victor who stopped the clock in a smart 34.93.
My Lil Bella had kicked the night off perfectly for Young. She has worked her way up the grades, successful in A3, A2 and A1, adding a first open to her tally. A 3.73 split is the best that she has produced so far in her career, and after just 12 starts, there is a strong chance of more to come.
The middle leg of the treble came from Funky Adz. The Coral Silver Maiden runner-up didn't get his head in front until the 12th time of asking for Young but has quickly added a second success. Young also picked up the winners of both graded races on the card.
Brunch Pal is marking himself down as a dog to follow for Dave Lee, adding the final of a 575m maiden competition to his fluent heat win from a week ago. He showed by far the best early gears and ran away from his rivals by six and three-quarter lengths.
Lee had seen Bright Jewel score in the previous race to make it a quickfire double on the night. Less than a length and a half covered the first four home in that 750m contest with the winner swooping late to grab the win.
Martyn Wiley also picked up a pair of winners in back-to-back races on the night courtesy of Blackburnmybullet and Broadway Steel. The former ended the winning run of Piemans Goalie at four, picking up his third open race success of 2026 in the process.
The latter was an 8/1 scorer but produced the quickest 400m run of the night, stopping the clock at 23.95. It was his first open race win since taking the final of the BetGoodwin Series Maiden Sprint at Oxford late in 2024.
The smallest winning margin of the night came in the sprint as Craig Morris's Nightingale Crew just edged out Maxine Locke's Dashaway Daisy. A short head split the pair, with the winner getting his nose in front right on the post.
Sams Magic was the shortest priced winner of the night at 4/9, taking the first open of the evening for Nathan Hunt. She was a semi-finalist in the bet365 Puppy Oaks at Oxford just before Christmas, taking advantage of a reduced field last night to score in style.
Paul Burr won the other open on the night, Tally Ho Socks getting off the mark over 575m. The level of rivals that he was taking on was not as strong as those in his first two starts over six bends and that allowed him to dominate proceedings from the off.
Jayden lands the Sunderland sprint for Soppitt
There was another solid sprinting win from Sunnyside Jayden at Sunderland last night, adding to his prior smart form there. Remarkably, Ted Soppitt's charge is tied with two others for the third fastest of 2026 over 261m, they are his kennelmates Sunnyside Ted and Sunnyside Gurkha!
Just four spots covered the two winners over 450m, with Carl Jackson's Noelles Glenlo just coming out the quicker of the pair with a 27.15. Her 5.05 split took her clear of her rivals, avoiding all the trouble at the opening bend in the process. She is still a pup and has won three of her seven starts for Jackson.
Tom Heilbron won the other open race contest on the night with Droopys Link. He was out trapped but showed excellent early pace to hit the opening bend two clear of his field. A Jimmy Wright Future Stars finalist in December, he clearly has an engine.
