Ladbrokes Gold Cup
It's girls on top in the outright betting for the Ladbrokes Gold Cup ahead of the first round. Slingshot Poppy strung three efforts together at the same outstanding level to comfortably win the Arc Angel of the North at Newcastle on the same night that Woltemade won the Time Northern Flat.
Jimmy Fenwick's hound is third favourite here with Mark Wallis's Strike It Skye between them. Another for Wallis is the new Towcester 460m track record holder Forgottotellya who made a decent impact at this track last Saturday night.
The competition is hugely deep with finalist last year Avarua Zlatan available at 40/1 and recent Coral Sussex Cup finalist Behemoth at 66's. The quality level is excellent for this 480m competition, with plenty of connections who will head into Saturday thinking that they have a chance.

Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic
There is a little less competition at the head of the market for the Ladbrokes Summer Stayers Classic with Vhagar, Zenith Pasha and Romeo Empire the only trio that are currently available at single-figure odds ahead of the opening round.
The first of those is the defending champion, clocking 37.54 in the final 12 months ago. She didn't trap as well as she can in a recent trial stake but that should set her up well for her attempt to go back-to-back.
Zenith Pasha is the new kid on the block in terms of stayers, the winner of all three of his starts since being upped to six bends, with all three of those coming over this track and trip. Those wins have come by an average of just over six lengths and have seen him hugely impressive to the eye.
Patrick Janssens's hound is a super dual trip performer, seen just once since unable to take up his third round slot in the Derby, he was a little disappointing at Nottingham in that sole start, but he is more than capable of putting that behind him.
6/4 Vhagar
9/2 Zenith Pasha
6/1 Romeo Empire
12/1 Mad For Cash. Tooreen Rose
16/1 Carrick Scholsey, Droopys Bookem
20/1 Droopys Deploy, Fortanach Col
