Romford are sad to see Maxine Locke leave but wish her all the best

Romford racing manager Mark Arkell says the Essex track wishes Maxine Locke all the best following news she is moving her runners to Central Park.

A trainer at Romford for almost 20 years, Locke will now renew links with the Kent venue having started her training at the track formerly known at Sittingbourne. A move towards a more open race-based kennel is understood to be the main reason behind the switch, and Arkell gets that.

He said: “We are obviously sad to see Maxine leave. She’s been with us for a long time but the last few years have seen her kennels move in a new direction.

“The focus for her, Gavin (O’Mahoney), Jack (Russell) and the JR Racing Syndicate is open racing and not so much the graded side of racing.

“Their ultimate aim is to win the Derby and switching to a stiffer four bends makes sense for this to happen.

“However, we hope she’s still with us on our open-race Friday nights as much as possible, but the greyhounds they are buying may not be suited to us anymore.

“At present we have no plans to replace Maxine and our current trainers will fill the void in terms of Maxine’s graded runners which will make the move.

“We wish her well and hope the kennel’s dreams come true.”
