Saturday report - Trebles at Monmore, Central Park and Star Pelaw
It was a busy night for open racing on Saturday and a great night for trainers picking up trebles at Monmore, Central Park and Star Pelaw.

Three trip treble at Monmore for Mark Wallis
It was an excellent night at Monmore on Saturday for the Mark Wallis team. Vhagar was the star of the show, making it a perfect 4/4 in her career over the 630m distance. She was a very short price to do so, but a slower exit than usual meant she didn't get to the front until the winning line the first time around. A 37.61 (+15) was a smart run given the break.
Pavilion Team has cooled off since a red-hot beginning to 2025 but he came back to close to his best to deny the excellent local Newinn Bachelor in a sprint contest. Table Toppers made every yard of the running over 480m to see off his kennelmate Armagh Daithi to fill out the middle leg of the treble.
There was a sprint race double for John Walton courtesy of Rathlogan and Casino Buddy. The former took the final of a maiden competition. He had run the odds on favourite Noduff Alpha to a short head in the heats but was allowed to start at 14/1 in the decider. Casino Buddy is a consistent type who had finished third in that same heat a week back, helping to frank the form.
Brian Thompson's Coologue Pest produced the pick of the 480m times on the night, clocking 28.32 (+10). It was his sixth win in his last 10 starts, finishing second in three others. Longacres Daddy got off the mark in open company for Pat Doocey, Ivy Hill Viper continued his march up the ladder for Kim Billingham-Hine and Aero Ella picked up her first open race win for Richie Taberner.
Brabon treble at Central Park
Mark Wallis had a treble of Monmore winners over three different distances at Monmore, a feat equalled by Dan Brabon at Central Park. Devonshire Lad kicked off the winners over 664m, adding to his win from the prior week. Swift Dallas got the job done over four bends before Martindale Lad added a sprint, also winning for the second straight week. The March '24 pup has won five of his six starts since dropped to. two bends.
Barry O'Sullivan picked up a quick double over six bends early on the card. Harlequin Taluka opened the night with a winner before Bling Bling Musk enjoyed running in a race that didn't feature Marvellous Mabel. Speaking of Luke Morrison's bitch, she took the scalp of Brigadir Brindle later on in the card, the second half of a Morrison double which was started by Coppice Denver.
The top performance of the night came from Cinderella Tell. Paul Donovan's charge produced an impressive sectional which got herself to the front early while short-priced favourite King Memphis found trouble on the run to the opening bend. There was some consolation for the Liz McNair team as King Presley closed the night with a sprint win.
Snowdon Louis used his early gears to good effect to land a 491m race for Julie Luckhurst. Barnfield Piper landed short odds for Nick Carter in a staying contest, with the other open on the card going to Eire Force Two for Mick Mavrias.
Three for Blackbird on Star Pelaw's Gala Night
In a continuation of the theme of the evening, there was a Dean Blackbird treble at Star Pelaw. Killieford Goram was the pick of the trio, winning well from the front over 590m. Nah Then Keefill was the opening leg winner in a sprint, with Tullymurry Shine competing the three over 435m. That's 50 open race winners for the kennel now in 2025.
On a night where Martin Stout's Rose Bowl winner Hillside Lily and Tom Heilbron's four-time Category One finalist Unanimous Leon both won over 435m, it was actually Jason Smith's seemingly ageless veteran Westfield Bullet who produced the quickest four bend time of the night. The June '21 whelp has not taken on the same level of opponents as his litter brother Churchfield Syd but win number 25 in his career has seen him take over as the winningmost dog in the litter.
Hardwick Teddy made every yard of the running over 780m for Stephen Caile, Glenn Foot scored with No Brakes and Metta won for Colin Watson. The biggest surprise of the night was the 25/1 victory for Craig Marston's Alone All Alone who enjoyed being back at the track after scoring twice there in the summer in A4 company.
Doncaster double for Ricky Overton
There were six opens at Doncaster last night with Ricky Overton picking up the quickest of the night over 483m with Corporal Jack as well as the sprint with Send For You. The first named has only had two starts since arriving from Ireland, winning a D1 on his Doncaster debut before unleashing a 29.28 run last night, the sixth quickest of 2025.
Barry Denby took the other 483m contest with Phoenix Cowboy, springing a 10/1 shock in a race where Doncaster standing dish, Stonepark Wes, could only finish third. David Fradgely's charge made the final, however, and the kennel picked up a winner themselves with Tiermana Lucky over 450m.
Another 450m contest on the card was picked up by Ling Ling for Susan Watson, while the other open on the night went to Baby Reindeer for Samantha Lapidge.
Wrighty does it again at Yarmouth
Saturday was a good day for veterans showing that they still have it in the legs. On Yarmouth's afternoon card, John Mullins's Wrighty followed up his win from last week with a 27.50 masterclass from the front.
Just six spots slower than Wrighty was Kevin Cobbold's Cappy Cailin. A perfect 3/3 at Mullingar in an unrated competition in the summer, she was getting off the mark in the UK at the sixth time of asking.
Irene Barnard won the other open race on the card, a sprint contest with Air Mix. He is 5/11 in sprints at the track, another to follow up a win form seven days prior.
