A Maiden Stayers to kick off open race proceedings this evening. Snooty Oreo has a best of 40.72 from November over course and distance, and with the draw having worked out well, something close to that might be good enough here. Lightfoot Sparta landed a graded hat trick back in February, and could well set the early gallop from trap 2. Group Blondie didn't cut any ice over six bends at Doncaster last autumn, but Chris Gilbert's blue fawn has always shaped like a stayer. Inspector has struggled to make his mark in open company following a promising Thurles debut, but it will be interesting to see how he gets on if getting on the bunny at an early stage. Altesse Heather has been steadily climbing the grades over four bends, and a tougher examination could elicit further improvement from this likeable sort. Da Maureens Star cannot afford to give the leaders too much rope.

Swift Underwater has done well for owners Ron Chadwick and John Hewitt, and his 7 from 10 record over course and distance tells you everything you need to know. July puppy Glenrock Ace has made rapid strides in a short space of time, but the suspicion remains he would prefer to be wearing the white jacket this evening. Millbank Boiler bowed out of the Laurels at the semi final stage following first bend trouble, but Gemma Evans' black has plenty of class, and could be hard to hold if negotiating the first two turns without mishap. Bert Ted made no mistake in A2 company last time out, and is capable of running well from more than one trap. Hilton Wolf had a Laurels final place snatched from his grasp in the closing stages last Saturday, and this early pacer is very reliable at the boxes. Nine of Fair Joe's thirteen career successes have come over a two bend trip, but he is no back number here, with a trap 6 draw unlikely to phase him.

Magical Bertie has been sparingly campaigned since arriving in this country in September, but with six wins from twelve starts under his belt, Mark Russell's close railer will look to nip round the first turn in front and stay there. Billis Wizard has spent a fair proportion of his career on the treatment table, but was a little unlucky behind the trap 1 runner at Notts in February. Camp Parachute is another to have thrived since stepping up in trip, and a creditable 39.93 over course and distance last month affords Tony Harmes' bitch plenty of respect. Bombay Nutty is a proper unit, and can appear a little ungainly around the bends at times, but the engine is most definitely there, and the big black should enjoy sufficient racing room to enable him to strut his stuff. Farneys Willie has been a great servant for Richard Wales, and landed Sunderland's Grand Prix in 2024 in fine style.

Oakfield Murty did an awful lot of running when a well supported favourite last time out, but simply cannot afford to miss the kick in this company. Transfusion has been an absolute star for the Get Out Of The Way Syndicate, and one of her trademark flashy exits could leave the rest of this field on the back foot. Charlies Choice comfortably ended a long losing streak latest, but a bit more will be needed here to trouble the principals. All of Tee Emgee Foxy's five wins have come at home track Sheffield, but a recent sighter will stand this half sister to Pestana in good stead. 2024 GBGB Sprinter of the Year Magical Bluebear ran up in last year's ARC Scurry Gold Cup, and flew round Nottingham at the start of the month. Ballinakill Liam is surprisingly still to get off the mark in this country, but acquitted himself well here on Judgement Night, and the draw in six is perfect.

Kilbonane Pet is a regular on the A1 podium at Perry Barr, but may find herself crowded on the run to the first turn with three close railers on her outside. Puppy Good Martini has made notable progress in a short space of time for Robert Hall, and could have a promising career as a stayer further down the line. Southfield Poppy has been expertly brought along by her astute handler, and now regularly mixes it with the very best the sport has to offer. Fabulous Aria has been handed a couple of tough draws since switching to Patrick Janssens, but a 27.92 trial here fully highlights the ability of this well bred bitch. The diminutive Bacon Roll has been a fabulous servant for the excellent Paul Burr, and although this trip is at the upper end of her range, crowding between her rivals could see the trap 5 runner claim the first half advantage she would require to bring home the...er...bacon.

Ballymac Taylor is chiefly campaigned over marathon trips these days, but has rocked up in the last two PGR St Legers, and it goes without saying that nothing will be finishing faster than this lady. Truth to tell, you'd fancy Breton Molly over any six bend trip at any track such is her consistency and adaptability, and the rest could have work to do if, as seems likely, she gets to the front in the first half of the contest. Sheffield's 660m trip would appear to be the minimum requirement for Rockmount Lucy these days, and this searching test could be right up her street. Following a truncated career, we've probably never seen the best of Hurry Up Jordan, but this Laurels, Queen Mother Cup and St Leger finalist has always had a touch of class about him, and a flashy run from the big black here would come as no surprise. Haka Luigi plies his trade in graded company, and is expected to be staying on late.

Wrighty has been an absolute star for connections, reaching multiple big race finals and finishing in the first two in over half of his races, although a draw slightly off the fence might truthfully see this tough as teak fawn in a better light. Coppice Trophy was undoubtedly the least fancied of Kev Hutton's three original Laurels entries, but he has made a mockery of the market to reach his first Cat 1 final, underlining his determination and genuineness. Aayamza Sydney wears his heart on his sleeve for his band of loyal owners, and it cannot be highlighted enough how well the big black and white has been handled by his talented trainer. With more than one string to his bow, tucking in behind the leaders before launching his challenge late on could be the order of the day. Druids Say Go had to work hard to get to the front after missing her break in the semi final, but the return to a middle draw is expected to see the fastest bitch in the country hit the lids and ask serious questions of her rivals. I was probably guilty of underestimating Armagh Daithi when first looking at his record a while back, but his three Perry Barr efforts have been nothing short of top draw, and with the champion trainer in his corner, anything is possible. Churchfield Syd has overcome more than one setback in a long and illustrious career, and it speaks volumes for the qualities of both dog and trainer that he has reached the final of yet another Cat One with a major chance as he approaches his fourth birthday.
