Shadow Storm reigns supreme in the National Sprint
The final of the Arena Racing Company National Sprint last night at Nottingham saw Shadow Storm pick up his third Category Two win of 2025.
Shadow storms to victory for Richard Rees
It was a third Category Two win of the year for Shadow Storm as he took out the final of the Arena Racing Company National Sprint at Nottingham on Monday night. Richard Rees's speedball already had the Time Greyhound Nutrition Sprint Trophy on Derby night and the Arc Scurry to his credit this year, adding the end of year feature to his haul.
Broadway Murty was the first to show but the favourite matched Sean White's charge stride for stride heading to the bend and the benefit of the inside line saw the Rees dog start to get on top. Once they turned for home, the race was all over as Shadow Storm pulled a length and a quarter clear of his nearest pursuer.
Bower Sheeran challenged on the other side of Broadway Murty for Tom Heilbron but he was nudged out at the halfway mark, though he stayed on powerfully on the run-in to grab second. Bockos Buster for Kevin Boon, Ballybough Nutz for Maxine Locke and Pro Parker for Michelle Brown made up the field.
Nathan Hunt picked up a pair of winners on the evening with Goldcash Warrior and Zebedee Cluasa both getting the job done. The first of those has made a very impressive start to his career for Hunt, making it 3/3 for the kennel and six straight wins in his career. The second won a sprint contest two and a quarter lengths off Shadow Storm's time, beating a trio of National Sprint semi-finalists in the process.
There was also an open race double for Esther Driver. Hopes Ompaloompa closed out the open races with a 29.57 win in the last, comfortably seeing off the Oaks winner Butlers Lane. Ballymac Coko kicked off the double, making up for a defeat in the heats of a maiden competition when making no mistake when she needed it the most.
A third sprint on the card was won by Da Don for Mark Russell. He had opened his career over here with a win at Dunstall but the drop to sprinting looked no bad move on his second start at the Wolverhampton track. He clocked 17.69, 15 spots off Shadow Stom.
