2026 Premier Greyhound Racing Classic

Sunderland racing manager Derek Hope has expressed himself delighted with the entry for the Premier Greyhound Racing Classic.

Six heats of the Category One event take place over 450m live on the PGR service on Friday and, with 52 entries received by the Wearside venue, the £20,000-to-the-winner was heavily oversubscribed.

"I can only apologise to those who missed out but it was an entry full of quality with the likes of Woltemade, Slingshot Poppy and last year's second Bockos Buster all in the hat, plus it was great to have Irish interest with Barry Clancy's Droopys Monk," said Hope.

The Premier Greyhound Racing Classic will be the first Category One in the north east to use the new seeding system with an additional rails to middle seeding category alongside the establishing seeding options.

Newcastle and Sunderland joined the pilot scheme on November 1 after the trial was introduced at Romford, Sheffield and Towcester.

The Premier Greyhound Racing Classic at Sunderland starts on Friday with the semis a week later and the final, the centrepiece of a gala card, on Friday, November 20.
