Sunday Open Race report- Foot boots home Star Pelaw hat-trick, while Draper lands Sheffield final

Star Pelaw and Sheffield staged the open race action on Sunday with Glenn Foot and Paul Prior faring best at each track, landing a hat-trick and double respectively

Star Pelaw staged nine opens on their twelve race card, four of those being trial stakes for the forthcoming competitions which start next Saturday, over 435m and 590m

There were two trial stakes for the SR Transport Rose Bowl over 435m and they went the way of Brynoffa Pippy (below)(11/2) and Toomevara Sheera (above) (5/2), trained by Savva Roberts at Newcastle and Paul Philpott from Central Park

Brynoffa Pippy was a three length winner for Roberts, leading round the opening bends to record 25.55 (+20), while Toomevara Sheera produced a similar performance, leading round the opening bends to record a two length success in the slightly quicker time of 25.52 (+20)

There were also a couple of Untold Racing Stewards Cup Trial Stakes over Star Pelaw’s six bend distance of 590m which saw a couple of front running displays from local trainer Colin Campbell’s Sheilas Sky (above) (16/1) and Newcastle trainer Ryan Buckton’s Troy Robbo (below) (5/2)

Sheilas Sky caused the biggest shock of the evening when pinging the lids and making all the running, making a mockery of her huge odds to record a three and three quarter length victory in 35.80 (+30) with 4/6F Savanaregimental a well beaten fourth.

Troy Robbo was another front running winner, trapping well and building up a winning lead. He was a two and a quarter length winner In the slower time of 36.10 (+30)

Elsewhere on the card, local trainer Glenn Foot landed a 49/1 treble courtesy of Tassie Twirl (5/4F) and Maglass Bucks (6/4F) both doing the business over 245m in 14.55 (+10) and (14.59) +10 respectively, with 8/1 shot Wonderful Dolce making all the running over the six bend 590m trip in 35.98 (+30)

Dean Blackbird was responsible for the shortest priced winner on the card as his Hoffa Eric (4/9F) was made to work hard by Marymount Joy, but battled back close home for a half length success in 25.85 (+20) for the 435m, while another local trainer, Daniel Bell also had a winner on the card as his Four Over (4/1) came from off the pace to score, drawing clear at the finish to score by three and three quarter lengths in 25.70 (+20)

 Sheffield

Sheffield staged their twelve race card on Sunday afternoon which included just the one open race and a couple of invitational races

The open race on the card was the final of the Owlerton Stadium Sprint over 280m worth £600, and it went the way of Rose Draper's Crokers Harry, who has been in cracking form since arriving from Valley. He showed good early pace to lead round the opening bends, going on to score by a length and a half in 16.00 (+10), with the 11/8F making it three wins from three starts around the Yorkshire venue.

Both invitational races over 280m and 480m went the way of Paul Prior

Keady Touch (15/8F) pounced close home for a head success to deny the front running Droopys Version an all the way victory, stopping the clock in 16.07 (+10), while Colliers Bucholz (7/1) caused a bit of a surprise when making all the running in 27.74 (+20), running out a length and a half winner from Timmys Hunter back in second
