Wednesday trebles for Locke, Young and Driver
Wednesday night open race action came from Dunstall Park and Romford with trebles for Maxine Locke and Esther Driver at the first and Paul Young at the second named.

Dunstall trebles for Locke and Driver
Annadown Wendy had only been seen in race action once since making the final of the Arc Puppy Trophy at Sunderland in June but that didn't stop her sparkling on her return for Maxine Locke. Quickly into stride from the striped jacket, she had the race wrapped up as a contest at the opening bend as she went around in front and her main market danger was trodden on.
There was an impressive six-bend debut for Dapper Grace earlier on in the night. She had looked every inch a stayer in Ireland as well as when chasing home a smart type at Central Park on her last two outings. This was her first look at the track as well as her first over this far so she is entitled to come on plenty for the experience, especially as she is still a puppy.
The first leg of the treble was Fantasy Abbie, taking up the running on a messy second bend. This was her second win at this venue from two starts having endured a rough start to her racing for Locke at Romford. She is open to a good chunk more improvement as time goes on, with plenty of pace early in her races.
It was Esther Driver's Skyfall Khan who produced the best time of the night over 480m, the opening leg of a treble for the trainer. He broke well but was just beaten to the punch on his inside by Nathan Hunt's Sams Magic who looked to have things in safekeeping at the third bend. Credit to the winner who dug in and got his nose in front right on the line to score by the minimum margin.
The 480m contest won by Stellas Smartie did not go the way that the market expected with 25/1 outsider How's That giving a bold sight in front for the first couple of turns before the winner went past him. He had won an open here back in early August as well as picking up an A1 at his home track of Nottingham a couple of starts back.
Another six-bend race on the card went to Driver's Quill Quids. He was having to hold on late from Locke's fast finishing Finally Matched, having only taken the lead himself turning for home from Bandit Paddy who had set the fractions out in front. The winner was scoring for the first time in almost seven months.
A sprint on the evening was won in fine style by Pat Doocey's Longacres Danny. Doocey does well with the speedsters, 15 of his 21 open race winners this year coming over two bends, including five from this lad since August 28. Danny has won seven of his last 11 starts now, with this his first victory away from Monmore.
Heather Dimmock picked up a win from Jazzy Ace who trapped an awful lot better at the second time of asking at this track than he had last week on his debut here. He picked up his first open race win at the end of June and now has victories at this level at four different venues.
Da Rocky has found his feet around Dunstall now for Robert Short, adding a first open race success to D1 and A2 victories already this autumn. He paced up past the rivals either side of him into the opening bend, just missing out on going around in front before his middle gears took him to the lead. He boasts some nice all-around pace which should propel him to plenty more success.
The other open on the night went to Francis O'Hare's Fercullen Dave who turned second on the inside, outstaying his main pace rival from the final bend. That speed was set by Mr Gaffney who did well to ride a bump at the opening bend to go around in front but having kicked clear, he wasn't able to maintain the run.
Young takes three at Romford
With Maxine Locke picking up three winners at Dunstall, it was a needed treble for Paul Young at Romford to keep pace, his scorers led by Bombay Buck. He bounced back to winning ways last week and he had his trapping boots on once more to double up that success to make it 19 open race wins in his career. When he is in this sort of form, he is a very hard dog to hold around here.
Another to add to a win from last week was Vahbelle who was in immediate control of her rivals over 575m from the inside draw. Her early pace is a serious weapon over this far, clocking a 13.39 split on her way to victory. She now boasts three wins and two runner-up efforts over this distance, and in this sort of heart, she should be adding plenty more.
Young had three of the four runners in another 575m contest where Finchogue Fury got up late on to score by a short head. It was his first win since arriving on these shores at the 12th time of asking. He had got his head in front four times at Enniscorthy before coming over, so it will be interesting to see if this has done his confidence some good.
There was a double on the night for Michelle Brown led off by Deelish Jack who swept to the lead down the back in a 400m contest. He had to dig in as he was challenged at the three-quarters mark by Bonville Secret but once she had moved wide off the final turn, he was home and hosed.
A sprint race saw the other success for Brown courtesy of Essex Gunner. He has not been trapping as well as he can in recent weeks, but he was right on his game here, leading up the field to pick up his first success since August. He was adding to open race wins at Suffolk Downs and Sheffield.
Bernie Doyle was the only other trainer to pick up an open win on the night as Too Spicy proved exactly that for her rivals early on thanks to a 3.70 split. She did have a prior open race success back in June to go along with three victories in A1 grade, holding on late from Young's Jimmyjimmyjimmy.
