Blackhouse Zooms to Newcastle Semi-Final Success

Blackhouse Zoom (10/1) recorded the fast of the two semi-finals of the BGBF British Bred Maiden Derby on Thursday night, causing an upset in doing so. Rose Draper’s Trapstyle Bluey was sent off 6/5 but produced a poor break, which Stuart Ray’s charge didn’t do, trapping well to make all the running to record a five-length victory in 28.51 from Greenwell Bolt.

Joe Edgar’s Fabulous Harmony (4/1) was a narrow margin winner of the second semi-final, taking up the lead round the third bend from leader Blackhousewalton, who battled back well in defeat, going down by a short head in 28.71.

There were also three heats of two competitions, the ARC Puppy and the ARC Standard, with the finals of both competitions to feature as supporting races for the BGBF British Bred Maiden Derby next week.

Next week’s ARC Puppy looks to be a competitive affair with most of the fancied runners from the three heats qualifying for the final. Elusivenomore (2/5F), who won the final of the Bresbet Gymcrack at Sheffield in his last outing a few weeks ago showed a cracking burst of early pace to make all the running in heat 2 when beating kennel-mate Howay Tonali by 3 ¾ lengths in 28.54, but that time was bettered in Heat 3 when John Flaherty’s Greenwell Tyson (EvsF) also recorded a 3 ¾ length victory from Jacktavern Lab in 28.48.

Dave Winder’s Jackos Bono made all the running in heat 1, making all the running in 28.76 with the winning distance of 1 ¼ lengths the margin.

Flaherty was also on the mark in heat 1 of the ARC Standard with Naochra (1/2F) who produced a stunning performance when making all the running for a 4 ¼ length success in 28.12 (+10) from Tot Trippett, a time which is the second fastest of the year over course and distance.

Angela Harrison’s Moanteen Webby (11/4) was another all the way winner, producing an electric sectional of 4.47 when making all the running for a three-length success in 28.24 from Clona Dash, a time which itself is the fourth fastest time of 2025.

Fenwick was also on the scoresheet again when Velvet Black (7/1) led round the opening bends to score by 4 ½ lengths in a slower time of 28.79 from Colla Vanny.

There was also nine opens at Hove where Belinda Green recorded a double.

Swift Jarvis followed up last week’s victory over the same course and distance when landing heat one of the Coral 695 Stayers Trophy.

Baywatch Bullet was sent off a 4/6 favourite but failed to secure a clear run and it was Swift Jarvis who cut through the field to beat Burrows Diamond by two and half lengths in 42.34 (-15), with Saint Maga back in third.

Ricky Holloway’s Miss Syd overcame traffic problems to take the other heat in 42.69 from Lilys Bullet and Razldazl Amanda.

Green completed her double in heat two of the Coral 500 Maiden Trophy contest courtesy of Braydens Buddy, who got up in the dying strides to deny Short Story by a neck in 30.02 (-20)

Untold Tether won the first heat with a dominant front-running performance, going two lengths quicker in 29.86.

Dave Lee had the first and second home in the Coral 515 Trophy final, but not in the order the betting suggested.

As 1/2 favourite Bluejig Baron missed the break, El Tornillo put the pace to the race and stormed into a healthy lead. Bluejig Baron stayed on nicely but couldn’t reel in his kennelmate, who crossed the line a length and a half clear in 30.36 (-20)

Gingers Tali gave favourite-backers something to cheer about in the Coral Winner of One 500 Trophy final.

Patrick Browne’s bitch flew out of the boxes and never looked in any danger thereafter, as she made all by four lengths from Lets Go Harry in 29.38 (-10).

There were also 500m victories at the Sussex track for So Cool (29.66), Ower Cracker (29.50) and Droopys Dialogue (29.76).
