With a career record of 18 runs and 12 victories, Proper Heiress will be looking to add to his recent big race successes in the Juvenile at Towcester on Sunday Afternoon

A September 22 whelp out of Droopys Sydney x Powerful Mush, Proper Heiress made his debut on 29th July when finishing runner up to Diabolik at Enniscorthy over the 525y but went one place better the following week, when blasting clear at the boxes to make all the running in 28.69 (-20), a time which ranked just outside the top ten times of the year for 2024.

After that run, he crossed the Irish Sea to join the Mark Wallis kennel, and following his qualifying trials at Towcester, he made his debut on 22nd September in a Maiden race at the Northamptonshire track over 500m. It turned out to be a winning one as he led round the opening bends to score by ½ length in 29.27, holding off the efforts of Droopys Plunge.

It was at this point where he went out on the road, and following a trial at Sheffield, he lined up in the BresBet Steel City Cup at Sheffield over 500m in October, where he finished runner up in the heats behind Union Rebel after early crowding, but exited the competition at the Semi Final stage behind Wicky Ned, having again encountered early trouble.

Nottingham was next on the agenda in November for the Eclipse over 500m, and after a trial, he managed an all the way success in a Trial Stake in 29.82 and then overcame trouble in running when landing his first round contest, getting the better of Romeo Command in the later stages. However, he suffered another Semi Final exit when finishing fourth behind Romeo Steel. Having encountered plenty of trouble round the opening bends, he was unlucky not to qualify for the final the following week.

But Proper Heiress would have no such worries when heading to Hove for the Coral Olympic over 515m in November/December. He produced a hugely impressive performance in the heats, beating Kevins Rocket by 6 ¾ lengths in 29.74, and produced a similar run in the Semi Final, making all the running again in 29.71 when beating Droopys Extragud by 3 lengths. In the Final, he had to overcome some early bumping but again showed a good burst of early pace and soon raced into a winning lead to land his first Category One title when again beating Droopys Extragud by 1 ¼ lengths in a time of 29.49 (+10), which was the fastest time of the year over the 515m course.

Proper Heiress kicked off 2025 looking to land a second Category One  when lining up in the Greyhound Racing Uk Blue Riband at Towcester over 500m. Having finished runner up to Untold Ruble in the heats, he managed to win his Semi Final despite stumbling out of the traps and finding trouble in running but was unable to overcome a tricky draw from trap four in the final, when encountering early trouble again, finishing last behind kennel-mate Table Toppers.

That second Category One title was soon to follow though at Monmore in February when landing the Ladbrokes Winter Derby, but it could have been a different story as when finding early trouble in the heats, it looked as though he could have been making an early exit but managed to qualify for the Semi Final, finishing third. The rest is history, as he made all the running in the Semi Final to score by 2 lengths from Droopys Suprstar in 27.97, who beat him in the heats, but it was his performance in the Final which drew much acclaim.

Having seemed to have come out of the traps on a piece of elastic, he was soon able to overcome a tricky looking draw in Trap 4 and built up a 4 length lead going into the first bend, drawing clear down the back and went on to cross the line in front by 5 ¼ lengths from Gary The Arb, recording 27.59, the fastest time over the course and distance at Monmore this year.

Like London buses, the next Category One title arrived shortly after at Central Park in March when going unbeaten throughout to land the ARC Kent Plate Final over 493m. Having won both heat and Semi Final in convincing fashion, this led to a much talked about head-to-head contest with March On Freddie in the Final. On this occasion though, Proper Heiress again timed the start from another difficult draw to perfection and made all the running to score by 5 ¾ lengths in 28.47, another occasion where he recorded the fastest time of the year so far and as a result, was named Greyhound Racing UK Greyhound of the Month for February

Since that run, he has had a trial over the 500m at Towcester and recorded 28.79.

Verdict: On current form, it could be said that Proper Heiress holds the best chance of the UK runners to not only win the Juvenile, but to also win the Derby itself. The excitement he generates when trapping in his best jaw-dropping fashion can almost take your breathe away and he has shown that he can win from all traps.

He has been unfortunate with the draw again here having drawn Trap 4 and has been the victim of some early crowding in previous races when attempting to get across to his favoured rails. But if he can break as he did in that Monmore Winter Derby Final, he could be a couple of lengths clear into the first bend, and if that’s the case, it would take a huge effort to reel him in and the 4/1 odds currently on offer could seem a big price to some.
