The latest standings for the trainer of the year have been published on the GBGB website with Mark Wallis at the top of the list using the points system. All standings are up to and including Sunday, September 28.

Let’s look at wins. Mark Wallis is out in front with 153 wins from 429 runners. Kevin Hutton is next in with 1621 winners from 507 runners, with Star Sports / TRC English Greyhound Derby winning trainer Patrick Janssens in third with 150 winners from 363 runners. Maxine Locke (120 from 598) and Nathan Hunt (103 from 414) are in fourth and fifth.
The total prize money won sees Patrick Janssens on top with £329.205 with Mark Wallis in second with £269,562. Third place goes to Maxine Locke with £138,990.
During September, Scooby Diamond landed the Category One Coral Romford Cup and £10,000 prize money on offer for trainer Nathan Hunt. Other major winners during the month were Mongys Wild in the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger at Nottingham for Mark Wallis and Chelms Bear for trainer Craig Morris in the ARC Birmingham Cup pictured below.

Romeo Steel took home the £15,000 prize money on offer at Yarmouth when collecting the Click Competitions East Anglian Derby with an impressive display of early pace. The Patrick Janssens-trained railer will now bid for back-to-back Category One success with a tilt at the BresBet Steel City Cup at Sheffield. Romeo Steel bolted up in the first round heats on Sunday, October 6, clocking 28.73 winning by three lengths with Timmys Hunter in second.

An interesting stat released on the GBGB Trainer of the Year standings list is the profit and loss column. In the top 20, only two trainers currently show a profit. Newcastle trainer Jimmy Fenwick is showing a profit of £27.50. Dave Lee currently shows a profit of £12.89 with 49 winners from 179 runners.
Plenty of top-class racing over the next couple of weeks, so the GBGB standings will of course change. The Premier Greyhound Racing Champion Stakes at Romford is worth £20,000 to the winner as the top six-bend performers in the country line up at the London Road circuit Romford in a bid to land the Category One event.
Over at Sheffield, the BresBet Steel City Cup is worth £11,500 and its attracted a top-class field with Romeo Steel, Romeo Ability, Chelms Bear and Droopys Trade all with leading claims.
At Dunstall Park all eyes are on the Premier Greyhound Racing Oaks and Irish raider Droopys Kathleen. Strike It Skye is second in the ante post market for Mark Wallis. The semi-finals will take place on Friday, October 17, with the £20,000 to the winner Category one competition final a week later on Friday, October 24.
Over at Central Park, the Premier Greyhound Racing Kent Derby final will take place on Saturday, October 18 with £25,000 in the pot including £20,000 to the winner. The bookmakers have Irish raider Bombay Pat as the 5/2 favourite ahead of Ladbrokes Gold Cup winner Headford Dane from the Maxine Locke kennel. Romeo Tomcat, trained by Patrick Janssens, is next in at 5s.
