Tuesday Night Open Report- Eze scores as part of Kibble double
Six open’s featured on Swindon’s 12-race card on Tuesday night which saw Angie Kibble landing a double.
Eze (7/2) was the first of those to score when he ended the unbeaten run of John Campbell’s Hard Done Boy over 476m. Having been sent off a warm order 1/2F, June 23 youngster Hard Done Boy missed his break but showed good pace into the opening bend but encountered trouble when facing a wall of Greyhounds.
Eze was the chief beneficiary of the trouble and having emerged from the second bend after a slight bump himself, Kibble’s runner set sail for home and built up a four length lead. Hard Done Boy set off in pursuit and made strides into the lead, but the line came in time for Eze, holding on to score by half a length in 28.11(+20)
Kibble then landed the double in the next race when taking The Blunsdon Maiden Stayers with All Long (15/8) over 682m. Having been last when crossing the line with a lap to go, All Long worked her way through the field and was able to pick up the leader and 13/8F Beora Bee on the run for home for a 1 ½ length victory in 41.88 (+30)
Kibble tasted defeat in the opening contest of the night over 476m though in what was probably the most intriguing race on the card when her Newinn Bliss was narrowly denied in getting back to winning ways by Kevin Hutton’s Southfield Poppy (EVS).
On paper, it looked to be a match between the two, Newinn Bliss having won 11 of her 13 starts over course and distance with last year’s Produce Stakes and in-form Southfield Poppy in opposition, and so it proved. When the traps opened, it was 33/1 outsider Baggios Emoski who led in the opening stages but was soon outpaced to the bend by the two protagonists, with Southfield Poppy turning the bend with a narrow lead.
The gap turned into two lengths down the back, and it looked as though Hutton’s runner would record a comfortable success. But the 5/6F Newinn Bliss knuckled down rounding the final bends and looked set to go up the inside of Southfield Poppy, who managed to close the door on her. She re-rallied though, going down at the finish by a neck, with Baggios Intent doing good work in the later stages to finish close behind, with a winners time of 28.31 (+20).
Mike Burton’s kennel are in good form at present, with Droopys Aladdin lowering the colours of Proper Heiress in the first round of the Derby last Thursday, and Droopys Suprstar also qualifying for the second round, and that form continued when his Only Live Once (8/1) proved too strong in the later stages in this 476m contest to score by half a length in 28.37 (+20) to deny Monmore trainer Chris Fereday from causing a huge 33/1 upset with his Bandanna Bono who had led from the early stages until the run for home.
Fereday was able to go one place better in the final open contest of the evening, when his Millridge Tanic (6/5F), who had been keeping good company in recent weeks, including when beaten by Mongys Wild in the Golden Jacket previously, was a comfortable winner over 682m.
Having been well backed during the lead, Fereday’s strong running type led off the second bend and despite a late effort from Ballymac Mags, Millridge Tanic had plenty in hand to score by two lengths in 41.71 (+30)
Oxford handler Chris Hamblin was also on the winners podium when his well fancied runner Robbies Galaxy (10/11F) landed a first victory in the UK at the third attempt when coming from off the pace to take up the lead round the third bend, going on to score by 1 ¾ lengths to land the Blunsdon Maiden Standard. He kept good company in Ireland, tasting defeat to Bombay Pat on a couple of occasions so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him with more to offer in the coming weeks.
