Kearney takes the Pelaw plaudits

Santas Bugatti produced the quickest of the 435m runs at Star Pelaw on Tuesday night, clocking 26.18 on -30 going. He was quickly doubling up on an A3 win from the week before, dipping under 26 seconds on calculated times for the third time in his last six runs for Frank Kearney. A litter brother to the JR Racing Classic finalist Santas Amigo, he never looked in danger of justifying his 4/9 starting price.

Kearney's double was started by Brassneck Usyk, who displayed the best middle gears in a maiden contest. He had stopped the clock in 28.85 on a taking race debut at Lifford back in the spring but he had taken a while to find the winning thread once more, scoring for the first time for Kearney.

The second heat of that maiden competition went to Magical Lila for Michelle Dobson. She has not stood much racing but had run a multiple Category One finalist in Long Fellow to less than four lengths in a Perry Barr open earlier in the year, so the ability is there if she can be kept on the track.

There was an impressive staying effort from Dean Blackbird's Ballyhimikin Ivy to land the 590m contest. It was only her third try over 590m, so she is open to better to come over longer trips, and is from a decent Good Cody litter that includes recent Kent Derby semi-finalist Ballyhimikin Ben.

It was the sprint that threw up the biggest surprise of the night for punters as 8/1 Shanahee Roxy landed the money for Colin Dibb. She had been runner-up over 435m the week before, albeit beaten six and a half lengths, but she proved too powerful for her opponents late on in the piece dropped back to sprinting.
