Central Park success in the north east for Brabon team

WOLTEMADE raced to a brilliant win in the Harry Burton Trophy Final at Newcastle on Thursday, landing an important win for Jimmy Fenwick in the Category Two final given the race was named in honour - and memory - of his late friend, the former Newcastle trainer.

In the days leading up to the £3,500 final, Fenwick said: “Harry was a great friend. He’s from Ashington where we’re based and, on the rare occasion, I couldn’t make a Newcastle United fixture, Harry and his grandson were first in line to have my ticket.

“He’s greatly missed, and I’d love to win Thursday’s race with one of our three greyhounds.”

And Jimmy did - with his Arc Northern Puppy Derby champion Woltemade who made all to clock a flying 28.23 for the Byker track's 480m trip as he led home kennelmate Elusivenomore by three lengths.

The most valuable race of the night was the £7,500 final of the BGBF British Bred Maiden Derby Final which saw Central Park's  Queen Katherine beat the locals to the punch as Dan Brabon's bitch led early on her way to a two and a quarter lengths win over John Flaherty's Ballycian Boy in 28.81.

Feature events at Monmore on Thursday were the Ladbrokes.com 480 Puppy Final, Ladbrokes.com 264 Final and Ladbrokes.com Dual Distance Stayers Final.

These were won, respectively, by Nathan Hunt's Whyaye Mister (28.26), Kim Billingham-Hine's Catchem Boyo (15.38) and Mike Burton's Carrick Scholsey (41.65) in the 684m decider.

Hove's feature event on Thursday was the final of the Coral 500 Standard Trophy Final which went to Luke Morrison's outsider Jacktavern Chief.

In winning by a length in 29.26, Jacktavern Chief made it a good night all round for Central Park trainers after Queen Katherine's Newcastle triumph.
