Newcastle planning for Boxing Day final

Newcastle general manager Ian Walton is already planning for Christmas - and wants north-east racegoers to do the same. And with extra special reason, as he explains.

"The Premier Greyhound Racing All England Cup Final - our biggest race in the calendar - falls on Boxing Day this year. So make a date and round your Christmas off by spending Boxing Day afternoon with us!" said Walton, who last week oversaw a big-race double-header at the Byker venue with the finals of the Time Greyhound Nutrition Northern Flat and Arc Angel of The North.

"The All England Cup is our next Category One, although open-race fans and our trainers are well catered for in between times with a number of Category Three events - our next one, over 480m, starts on Thursday week. Entries close on Monday.

"But in terms of the All England Cup final, it will be a Saturday evening meeting on Boxing Day, with the All England heats and semis on back-to-back Thursdays - December 10 and December 17," he added.

Last year's Premier Greyhound Racing All England Cup was won by the David Mullins-trained Santas Amigo. This year's event will again be worth £20,000 to the winner.
