Fancied greyhounds Romeo Alliance and Romeo Ability land double for Janssens as wide margin victories the order of the afternoon
Odds on Ante-Post favourite Romeo Alliance didn’t get things his own way in heat four of the BGBF 79th Produce Stakes at Swindon this afternoon, but the Patrick Janssens runner ended up running out a comfortable winner and taking his place in the next round.
Sent off as a short priced 2/15F for victory this afternoon, Romeo Alliance’s (below) chances literally took a hit in the opening strides as the Janssens runner turned right out of trap two and the Dave Mullins trained Pin Point, turned left from trap three, and inevitably collided twice in quick succession. But Romeo Alliance continued his progress right and took a minor bump from Clare Conley’s Coppice Thomas, who himself was making a beeline for the inside.
Meanwhile, it was Conley’s other runner, Dreamin Ringo in Trap six who had hit the front into the opening bend, but Romeo Alliance, who had recovered from that trouble, was only a couple of lengths behind.
Dreamin Ringo held off the short priced favourite until between the final couple of bends, where the recent Puppy Classic winner then showed his class, and was able to pull away on the run for home to record a three and a quarter length victory in a time of 28.61, with Dreamin Ringo running a good race in second, with Nathan Hunt’s Inca Lewie a further head behind back in third.
Twenty minutes earlier, Romeo Ability, who set new figures for Nottingham’s 480m trip on Monday, faced no such worries as he romped to an eight length victory and in doing so, set the fastest time of the first round.
Breaking well from the traps, the 2/15F hit the front on the run to the first bend and was already clear of the trouble that occurred behind as he pulled clear with every stride, stopping the clock in 27.98, ahead of Patrick Browne’s Shes One Eighty, with Dalton Smith’s Mohican Lisa a long way back in third having found plenty of trouble at the first bend
The opening heat saw another eight length winner as local trainer Angie Kibble’s Eagles Respect produced an impressive all the way performance when defeating Dalton Smith’s Signet Lyssa. Showing a good burst of early pace, the 1/4F hit the front in the early strides, with Signet Lyssa only a length or so behind with Lego finishing third for Dave Mullins after finding serious early trouble.
Down the back though, Kibble’s greyhound showed an impressive turn of foot, building up a four length lead into the third bend, and that lead just kept on extending with the official margin eight lengths when stopping the clock in 28.06
Kevin Hutton had a wide margin winner at Romford last night courtesy of Magical Luka, and his Signet Layla was another one here, this time running out a seven and three quarter length winner. Sent off the 8/11F, Signet Layla produced a flying 3.99 sectional when taking a middle course into the first bend and never gave punters a single worry, drawing clear for another impressive victory from Nathan Hunt’s Coppice Freedom, with Rachel Hill’s Berties Decision back in third.
Patrick Browne’s Coppice Esme got the better of a scrappy encounter in the fifth heat when scoring at odds of 5/1. Having led in the early stages, she was soon headed into the first bend by Rachel Hill’s Maggies Dream, who built up a lead of a couple of lengths down the back, but Coppice Esme rallied and came to challenge when rounding the final bends.
However, the two came together between the final bends, enabling the field in behind to close up, but Coppice Esme hit the front again on the run for home, holding on for a half a length victory in 28.94 from the fast finishing Malcolm Bosh, who had been tailed off in the early stages for Angie Kibble, with the Dave Mullins trained Exve Strike finishing third, which saw the more fancied Mullins runner, 11/8F Izzys Tenpin finishing in fourth.
Mullins enjoyed better luck in the final heat as his 7/2 shot Pin Position survived an early bump round the opening bend to hit the front off the second bend, and having survived another bump from the challenging Coppice Arthur at the third bend, he was able to go on a record a comfortable five and a half length victory from Patrick Browne’s Coppice Arthur in 29.06, with another Mullins runner, Ten Fold, taking third.
