Banksie's Five to Follow- Friday 11th July
Each week I’ll be looking to find Five Puppies who have caught the eye in graded in action in the last week who could be worth following in the coming weeks.
Last week saw just the one winner from the four runners who ran
The Craig Morris trained Cartoonist was able to defy a two grade rise for a half length victory on his debut run when able to lead in the early stages again, before going to record a three and a half length victory in a quicker time than when scoring previously, rewarding followers at 7/4 on Tuesday evening

Moving on to this week:
ZENITH KINDY: Ran from Trap 2 in the 1.42pm at Romford on Saturday 5th July
Having produced a moderate break, the Dave Mullins trained Zenith Kindy made a winning debut at Romford on Saturday Afternoon.
The November 23 youngster was able to turn the opening bends in third position, but all the way round bends one and two, he had his rival in trap one blocking his pathway.
Heading down the back, he was still in third, a good four lengths behind the leader, but at the third bend, he was able to get past the runner in trap one to move into second place. With the stride starting to shorten on the leader in trap five, Zenith Kindy was able to hit the front, but In doing so, had his back legs taken from him as he cut across the leader off the last bend.
Zenith Kindy was able to overcome that and crossed the line a length and a quarter clear in 24.62 (-10) at 3/1. That time wasn’t great for an A4 contest but having not found a clear passage on a couple of occasions, then there is scope for improvement, especially with a clearer passage round the opening bends and he looks one to watch in the coming weeks
TWOFORTHEDITCH: Ran from Trap 3 in the 11.29am contest at Doncaster on Saturday 5th July
Susan Watson’s Twofortheditch had made all the running on her debut outing previously in bottom grade and went close to landing the double when a narrow margin runner up on Saturday Morning
The January 24 youngster produced a good burst of early pace to lead in the B6 contest, looking to build up a decent looking lead which she was able to do. However, she was picked up close home by an odds on favourite, who is a good yardstick for that grade
Her time of 28.54 would win most B6 contests and was a personal best, beating her previous best time of 28.99 set when winning on debut, an improvement of just over five lengths.
Whilst she may not improve again as much as that next time out, there is still the chance that she has more to come, but on the clock, a repeat of that performance could see her back to winning ways in B6 again and if able to build up another early lead, then she could prove tough to reel in on the run for home
OWN VIEW: Ran from Trap 5 in the 1.51pm at Yarmouth on Sunday 6th July
As debut performances go, you can’t ask much more than this from a February 24 puppy and trainer Linda Brown would no doubt have been delighted with the Own Views winning run on Sunday Afternoon.
Sent off as the 6/4F, Own View trapped well and hit the front after a few strides, going a length clear into the first bend. With his nearest pursuer drifting off wide at the first bend, Own View had a lead of about four lengths when coming out of the second bend and never looked to be in any danger at any stage.
Coming off the last bend, the lead had built up to a good seven lengths, and despite his stride shortening slightly on the run for home, he crossed the line in front five and three quarter lengths clear of his nearest rival in a time of 28.46, a cracking time for an A8
You would hope that being so young, the grader may only give him a one grade penalty, but time on the clock was decent and is in all likelihood likely to receive a double penalty as a result. His time was a personal best, just over six lengths better from trials and may yet still have more to come and will look to make all the running again next time out
AERO NAJEM: Ran from Trap 3 in the 5.56pm at Monmore on Tuesday 8th July
Having finished fourth on debut previously, Richie Taberner’s January 24 youngster Aero Najem was able to trap well and make all the running in this A4 contest on Tuesday Evening
A good burst of early pace saw him hitting the front on the run to the first bend with a length and a half advantage. Some scrimmaging in behind saw that lead building up to around three lengths as she came out of the second bend and was able to maintain that sort of advantage until the final bend
Her stride did start to shorten and the gap did start to narrow as the pack behind gave chase, but the 15/8F was able to run out a comfortable two and a quarter length winner in 28.62 (+10).
That was her best time on the clock by two lengths and she looks like she could progress further in the coming weeks if able to hit the front again in the early stages
WESTWOOD DENISE: Ran from Trap 3 in the 8.31pm at Central Park on Tuesday 8th July
One to keep an eye on at Central Park in the coming weeks is the Barry O’Sullivan trained Westwood Denise, who caught my eye when staying on well to finish runner up on Monday Evening.
Making her debut in D4, this March 24 youngster fluffed her lines at the start, coming out of the traps in fifth, which is always going to be a problem in a sprint contest.
However, from the first bend, she showed good pace and stayed on well to finish runner up, beaten a length and three quarters having been sent off at 4/1
Yes this was only a low grade sprint contest, but having stayed on so well, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see her stepping up to four bends in the coming weeks, but until then, she looks to have every chance of improving on that run and if able to break in a better fashion, then she looks more than capable of landing one of these D4 contests.
