Bockos busts out a 17.52 at Nottingham

Only two dogs in 2025 went quicker than Bockos Buster produced in his Nottingham win last night for Kevin Boon. He was 20 spots off the track set by Romeo Steel last March, with Ballinakill Liam the only other dogs to better 17.52.

Bockos Buster made the National Sprint final at the track just before Christmas, adding to his appearances in the Scurry, Classic and East Anglian Derby finals last year. In 17 runs for Boon, he has won eight times, beating a smart new kid on the block in Da Don last night as well as a rock-solid yardstick in Bluejig Baron.

Boon would have been hoping that he would have been the second half of a double but his smart youngster Bockos Frankel was picked up in the shadows of the post by Sharon Saberton' s Rossa Vita. She already had a Nottingham win to her credit as well as a runner-up run to a nice type for Esther Driver in Ballymac Coko, so she had solid form coming in.

Wakawaka Eh Eh remained unbeaten since returning to action for Lynn Cook last month, now 6/10 in his career overall. There are limited miles on the clock for a May 23 whelp but if connections can keep him on the track, he could be a sneaky type to make a decent run at a competition around his home track later on in the year.

Oxford double for Kevin Hutton

A rare open race evening at Oxford on Monday made up for some of the action that they have lost of late due to the cold weather. Kevin Hutton wasted no time picking up a pair of opens with Doc Susie and Sister Lizzie. The first named was only making the third start of her career while the latter just the seventh. Both are a part of decent litters and shape as if there is better to come.

David Lewis could have a nice type on his hands as well in Lets Go Stacey who took the lead early and never looked back. She is a May 24 out of Links Maverick who is already showing himself to be a decent sire from very limited numbers.

Jazzy Vibe picked up a win for Claire Conley, pacing up well to the turn. He has found others just a hair stronger over 450m so far in his career but this was a solid second win for him to add to an A5 success.

There was a winning 450m debut for Rachel Hill's Showmeyourtail, adding to a D3 success picked up in November. She showed by far the best pace from the traps to make all of the running.

The opening race on the card went to Memories Clash for Graham Wright. At 10/1, she was the biggest priced winner of any of the opens on the evening, running down her kennelmate Clongeel Belle late on.
