Flare takes her place as a Cat One winner

The final of the Coral Regency was a fascinating contest on paper, despite the prohibitive odds that Droopys Flare was expected to be sent off at. She is the top six bend bitch in the country at present and hopefully she can back that up with a tilt at the Premier Greyhound Racing St Leger in the autumn to stamp her position. 

Fresh off a track record over Towcester's 460m, Forgottotellya headed to Monmore to get his head in front in a very smart time ahead of the start of the Ladbrokes Gold Cup this coming Saturday night. He has found the winning thread with a vengeance in recent weeks and it is entirely possible that there is more to come from him with limited miles on the clock.

Headford Sarah has been in excellent form herself recently with another win at Romford coming her way on Friday night. She made the final of the Guys & Dolls which is the only time that she has been defeated in her last six starts, and these Friday night one-offs, especially against her own sex can see her continue her winning sequence. 

Speaking of those running up a sequence, Sunnyside Gurkha got his head in front once more at Star Pelaw at the weekend to make it five straight wins there. At present, there is not a lot who is capable of touching him, and those who can might not be willing to take him on when he is in such good form. He is the track champion at present, there is no doubt about that.

The return to Doncaster saw another fine effort from Newline Kielty who has now won three in a row at the South Yorkshire circuit. An Angel of the North finalist, she is in absolutely flying form at present and produced what was arguably the performance of her career on Saturday night. 

There were some consistent performances at Towcester on Sunday afternoon where Alright Bullet probably just about produced the pick of the runs with his 500m effort. He only had three rivals to beat but they were all inside of him which gave him something to clear on his inside. 

There have not been many opportunities to see Turnthemagicon in his career so far but when he has been in action, there have been some superb runs. He was exceptional at Dunstall Park on their centenary celebration night, and he added to that with a slick success at Central Park on Saturday, clocking a decent sprint time on what was a slow track.   

It was another decent week for the sprinters with Aghaburren Bucko claiming top spot at the aforementioned Dunstall Park. He dipped under the 16-second mark which is a decent barrier on which to judge the two-bend runners. He was a hair over four lengths off Turnthemagicon's run which is the quickest of the year. 

Despite being a veteran, there is still plenty of speed in the legs of Yahoo Megan who picked up her second win in as many weeks over Nottingham's 305m distance. It was a decent field that she beat, coming away level but showed the best of the speed into the opening bend which was more than enough to see her hold off her rivals.  That made it 43/87 in her superb career.

At Sunderland it was Romeo Dutch who won the Performance of the Week for the second week in a row, claiming it for a 450m success last week before dropping to a sprint and doing the double this time around. His early gears are going to put him competitive over both distance in the coming weeks.

A sprint open at the Valley on Thursday night was won by Lady Devine who snuck into the top 35 times of the year with her success. It was her final start with her puppy status intact and just the ninth of her career. Could well be more to come from her as she learns her trade.

Grouchos Cossie took full advantage of a small drop in level to pick up a 480m win at Sheffield, though he needed to dig in deep after he was led up. He is a class act when he is at the top of his game, making the semis of a pair of Cat One finals on two different tracks of late, and he is capable of making a decider at some point. 

There was only graded action at Newcastle last week where Solway Gypsy took the top honours with an A1 success. It was a fifth straight win from the September 24 puppy who has looked like being a very smart recruit. Her graded wins came in D3, D1, A3, A2 and A1, looking well set to take the step up into open race company now.

At Yarmouth there was a win for Strathrannoch who had been a little while between drinks, his last win coming in an open race at the start of May. He is a very smart type around here when he has got his trapping boots on, avoiding a bit of first bend trouble to scoot clear of his rivals. 

Fairhill Autumn took the award at Harlow in a slightly below-par week for them in terms of times. There have been some smart runs of late but it was a slower track this time around with this top sprint run coming on a slow surface. 

At Kinsley there was a win for Jella who stopped the clock at under 28 seconds for the first time in her career. She has only had 16 starts at Kinsley, winning five of them and generally going in the right direction in terms of times over both two and four bends, and was also far from disgraced in better company at both Doncaster and Sheffield..
