Doubles abound at Suffolk Downs

Four trainers at Suffolk Downs picked up a brace apiece from the 12 open races on Tuesday night. Farney Millie got off the mark at the seventh time of asking for Kevin Boon to produce the quickest 388m time of the night, 23.52. She was put into the Oaks on just her second start for the kennel, so it will be interesting to see if she goes onto better things from here now that she has got her head in front.

Boon's other winner came over six bends in the form of Joy Wild who beat a decent field, chased home by Savana Clowns and Capel Rose. 548m is a touch on the short side for all three of them but Boon's bitch showed the best middle gears to get herself into the right position to score.

It wouldn't be a Tuesday night at Suffolk Downs without winners for Michelle Brown. Bucking Bucks and Miltons Dream were the pair to greet the judge in front last night. A single spot separated the pair which is not a surprise given they are split by next to nothing on their respective D1 winning form at Towcester as well.

It was another successful meeting for the Darren Whitton team, adding a double of their own with Blackheath Charm and Barntick Sydney, both over six bends. They had each run well last week, the latter winning and the former running second. It feels like Whitton raiders need to be given plenty of respect in the coming weeks.

The fourth and final trainer to get two winners on the night was Jason Gornall. Indian Floyd added another six-bend win to last week's success while Amys Gem produced a sprint win to add to an impressive recent strike rate, her sixth win from her last 11 starts.

Laura Pruhs got amongst the winners with Some Cashout, landing a sprint in 13.73. Savana Red Bull was a winner for Jason Ray, Blackfriars Buzz showed the benefit of a look around last week to open the card with a winner for Jim Daly, with Canya Queue picking up the other open on the night for Paul Rea.

Pelaw ravaged by non runners

Star Pelaw had a number of non runners last night which resulted in an abandoned contest as well as two and three runner affairs. The track had abandoned the last few races on Sunday night, with the track still very slow on Tuesday, the 590m contest run on a track rated -160.

Rhoden Esmae won the first open on the card for Joanne Atkins, marginally the quicker of the two sprints on the night. She has rattled off a hat-trick of wins since arriving at the track from Doncaster. The other sprint went to Newyork Fitzy who only had a single rival to beat for trainer David Wilkinson.

Dunnanelly Dan was the quicker of the four-bend winners, picking up a win for Matthew Watson. Jolly Draw was the other winner over 435m, landing an almighty 33/1 surprise for Ken Kennedy, staying on best in the conditions to take the prize right on the line.

The 590m race was won by Port West Storm, justifying prohibitive odds of 1/3 for Dean Blackbird. She won a Nottingham open in October, and had no issues returning to further, a 35.28 winner at Romford last November.
