Noellie: Gold Collar champion

Derby at Towcester will be Cat One winner's main target

NOELLIE will be back in the new year after an injury forced the Gold Collar winner’s withdrawal from the heats of the Coral Olympic at Hove on Saturday.

Set to return to the scene of his Category One triumph earlier this month as a part of a strong team from Paul Young’s kennels for both the Olympic and George Curtis & Ballyregan Bob Memorial at the weekend, those plans have had to be shelved but the Romford trainer reports his young star to be sidelined only for a short time.

“He went to George Drake’s and he’s slightly sore in a shoulder,” said Young. “It means two or three weeks off for him, but we’ll leave him now until the new year. The Derby will be his aim but there are plenty of races for him before that.”

Lining up as the youngest finalist, Noellie, an October 23 son of Ballyhimikin Jet and Droopys Gifted, landed a deserved but surprise 14-1 chance in the £10,000 final at Hove, leading home Antigua Kestrel in the 500m decider.
