Friday's Tips

The start of the second round of the Derby, with eight heats this evening and another eight tomorrow.

Heat 1 - 6.58

A superb clash to start us off as Proper Heiress takes on Ballymac Deniro. Both were impressive first round winners, though they took their chances differently. The former showed his ultra professional side, while the latter showed his greenness and lack of experience. Ballymac Deniro is the sole seeded runner on the outside which is going to be a help but now two of the three drawn inside Proper Heiress have been taken out, he is the call.

Heat 2 - 7.18

The draw in red didn't really suit Epic Ace in the heats but his sheer pace got him into a challenging position off the first bend and his class got him to the front at the third. He should be all the better for the extra look around, though he can't rest on his laurels as there is plenty of speed up inside of him. Slick Skylark had things go her way last week with the two market leaders tripping over one another, picking up the pieces around the outside. That could easily happen again.

3-6-2

Heat 3 - 7.38

This is a really trappy contest where we are going to lose a couple of decent types. Things didn't really fall right for Burrows Charm last week, just scrambling through in fourth spot. That was his first look at Towcester since last May, so he is entitled to find plenty for getting his eye back in. He has won four of his last five starts when sporting the white jacket, including defeating New Destiny over 575m at Romford in the Essex Vase. Rebel Alaska can keep out of trouble out wide and then there is a bun fight for the other spot

3-6-2

Heat 4 - 7.58

This could be a straight shootout between Ballymac Ralf and Slick Sentinel. The former should get a perfect tow around the inside from Carrigoon Milo who is generally a quick starter, while the latter has a perfect draw with four railers and a slow starter inside of him. The middle pair are probably drawn the wrong way around for their respective connections which could see the pair get in the way of one another early. Slick Sentinel is the pick on the draw.

6-2-4

Heat 5 - 8.18

There should be plenty of support for Lennies Tank here who it is surprising to see at odds against. He is going to have to be smarter away form the boxes but his draw in stripes should keep him away from any trouble on the inside. Droopys Aladdin has a tough draw in four and will be heading straight to the rails from there. He might get there as there is not masses of early inside of him but the selection was impressive last week in his heat win, while leaving the impression there's plenty more to come.

6-4-2

Heat 6 - 8.38

There could be a bit of a surprise on here as Alright Twinkle is more than capable of taking advantage of any trouble inside of her. Radical Story to her immediate left popped out last week but didn't pace up. He is more of a staying type. Both the inside pair would rather be in three and the one who is in three dived straight left from four on his Towcester debut but went up straighter the next twice. Alright Twinkle led up in the Ballymac Deniro heat last week, and it might just take a good run to peg back the Brighton Belle finalist tonight.

6-5-1

Heat 7 - 8.58

Ballymac Stud was an impressive winner of his heat and can make it 2/2 in the Derby with another front-running display. He has his main dangers on each flank, with Lennies Desire on his outside and Gaytime Joachim to his inner. Ballymac Stud should be able to hold off Lennies Desire on the run to the bend, that rival not at his best so far in two runs back at this track but we all know just how good he is when he is on his game.

5-6-4

Heat 8 - 9.18

There was a bit of ring rust that needed knocking off last week, but with that run behind him, the real Glengar Silent can stand up tonight to be counted. An Irish Derby finalist last year, he looked like he might fall at the first hurdle at Towcester after a slow start and a bump saw him last at the quarter mark but he did enough to get through. Lennies Eddie will be better suited to the return to trap four rather than the red jacket this time, with Underground Gold now in that position on the rails.
