GBGB and BGBF give Towcester the go ahead to host the British Bred Derby
Towcester will be allowed to host the British Bred Derby after discussions with the GBGB and the BGBF. The event will begin on Sunday, December 7.

Towcester given green light for the British Bred Derby
We reported last week that Towcester were in discussions to save the British Bred Derby. Today, the track was granted permission from the GBGB and BGBF to host the £10,000 to the winner event next month. The entries will close at noon on Wednesday, December 3.
Towcester chief executive Richard Thomas had said in that piece that "Towcester wants to be the new home of British breeding" and this competition feels like a strong start to that commitment.
The track has hosted the event in the past with the three runnings from 2015-2017 at the Northamptonshire venue.
British Bred Derby 2025 dates
First round - Sunday, December 7
Semi-finals - Sunday, December 14
Final - Sunday, December 21
The distance will be unchanged at 500m, and hopefully there will be a strong entry to not only reward Towcester for their commitment to British breeding but also for those with British bred greyhounds showing just how invaluable these competitions are.
The 2024 contest was held at Sheffield with Phil Milner's Keefill Rocky coming out on top. He was one of three finalists for Milner with Keefill Maverick and Keefill Goose also making their way into the decider as well.
One of the most memorable renewals in recent years was the 2019 edition won by King Sheeran. The opening round came just eight days after he had chased home Ice On Fire in the Eclipse at Nottingham, while the final was just four days before the opening round of the Olympic at Hove, a competition that he also went on to win!
