International collaboration in greyhound welfare and regulation continues to grow, with the Greyhound Board of Great Britain (GBGB) co-hosting the third International Greyhound Regulators' Forum last week.

The event forms part of GBGB’s Welfare StrategyA Good Life for Every Greyhound and focuses on improving greyhound care worldwide.

Held virtually, the session brought together representatives from Great Britain, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Attendees shared updates on greyhound racing in their regions, including recent scientific research, injury prevention initiatives, and homing outcomes for retired greyhounds.

Strengthening greyhound welfare through global dialogue

GBGB offered insight into its most recent welfare developments, including:

  • Expanded homing initiatives for retired greyhounds

  • Continued investment in greyhound genetics research

  • Advancements in injury prevention and veterinary care.

Madeleine Campbell, GBGB Independent Director, said:

“It was a fascinating morning listening to our counterparts from across the world. There is so much we can each learn from one another, and the discussions offered valuable insights and clear actions to take forward. Alongside collaboration opportunities, the Forum also highlights the global progress we’ve made in greyhound welfare. This makes it even more frustrating when non-evidence-based political developments threaten the sport, particularly in New Zealand.”

Steven Karamatic, Chief Veterinarian at Greyhound Racing Victoria (GRV), added:

“It was another constructive and informative session. We continue to learn from each other’s progress in welfare and regulation. It’s uplifting to see a shared global commitment to evidence-based greyhound care.”
