Inseparable litter sisters find their perfect forever home after sparkling on the track
Two greyhound litter sisters who were inseparable from birth have found their perfect forever homes after retiring from racing, thanks to national charity Home Run Hounds.
Magpie Ramona and Ice To See You won seven races each at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium between December 2023 and September 2025.
The sisters lived together under the care of Ashington handler Jimmy Fenwick and his team – who include Jimmy’s wife Mel, daughters Hannah and Lauren and son Callum – before moving to Home Run Hounds’ new north-west homing centre in Warrington.
The pair have now happily settled into their new lives in Stockport weeks after retiring from racing after winning the hearts of a young family ready to welcome two four-legged friends into their home.
Janet Freel, one of Home Run Hounds’ 156 volunteers in the north-west, was delighted to source the sisters their perfect home in retirement.
“It’s such a heartwarming story,” said Janet.
“Both greyhounds had lived in each other’s pockets from birth until the end of their racing careers and while we wanted to home them as a pair, that’s not always possible. Their new family fell in love with them straight away, we couldn’t believe it"
“Four days after signing our foster-to-adopt forms, all the paperwork was finalised and the family couldn’t be without them. Greyhounds are such a gentle breed with a wonderful temperament and are fantastic with children too, making them the perfect family pet"
“Our partnership with the team at Newcastle Stadium and its sister venues is so important to finding each retired greyhound the right home as it allows us to really understand the nature and history of each dog before it arrives in our care. We’ll all miss the sisters, and wish them the happiest of retirements!”
Home Run Hounds’ newest centre in Warrington was launched in August and has space to care for 12 greyhounds recently retired from racing. It is the charity’s first north-west branch with other centres located in the midlands, Suffolk and Essex.
As part of the launch, Home Run Hounds has teamed up with Arena Racing Company – the UK’s largest greyhound racing operator – which is continuously funding six of the centre’s kennel spaces, plus vet fees and costs associated with finding each greyhound its forever home.
The partnership is underpinned by the GBGB’s Greyhound Retirement Scheme, which helps with costs associated with every greyhound’s retirement via a £420 bond. Today, 94% of greyhounds are successfully retired.
Ian Walton, General Manager at Newcastle Greyhound Stadium, said: “It’s lovely to know both sisters will spend the rest of their lives in each other’s company.
“Ensuring greyhounds find suitable homes in retirement is one of the biggest priorities of our operation. It’s why collaborating with our homing partners like Home Run Hounds is so important to ensure we can help link our retired stars with loving, and appropriate, new owners after they’ve run their final race"
“We’d like to wish them both a happy and loving retirement.”
Jo-Anna Burn, Homing Coordinator at Arena Racing Company, added: “Both greyhounds were born together, and now they’ll live in their forever home together.
“We’re so delighted for both of them and their new family, who took an immediate shine to the pair when visiting Home Run Hounds’ new facility. It’s so rewarding to see and we can’t wait for plenty of updates on how they’re getting on!”
