St Leger kicks off at Limerick

The start of the 1XBet St Leger dominated the Limerick card on Saturday night with Graham Holland's Swords Diamond producing the pick of the performances. His 29.49 tied him for the quickest of the year so far over 550y, beating a rock-solid yardstick in Solo And Go in the process. He had not been seen in race action since early July which made the success all the more impressive.

The Gourmet Island Puppy Oaks final at Shelbourne went the way of Ballymac Imrie for Liam Dowling. The May 25 whelp has been in sparkling form and this success was just two spots off the fastest of the year for the 525y distance which was set by Laurels winner Ballymac Kamala. She has bundles of speed but she comes from a pedigree that suggests she'd stay further which would be a scary prospect.

Over two bends it was the second round of the Fair Warrior at Mullingar where Stonepark Browne came back to winning ways after being turned over in the opening heats last week. He took a couple of lengths off the quickest time of the year with this success, a time that put him just 10 spots off the track record for the 400y trip.

There was a new best of the year at Lifford by a massive 24 spots as Drumdoit Audrey went fastest in the opening round of the BOYLE Sports Lifford Oaks. It was the quickest run since the venue reopened and the fastest since Quezon Cian produced a 28.47 effort in July 2017. It was only her seventh career start.

It is rare that the 350y distance is used at Dundalk, in fact the race that Beranmays Blue won was just the second of the year over the trip. Blame The Game holds the track record which stands at 18.46, so this effort just 11 spots slower in his third career start has to put him down as a sprinter to watch.
