Produce Stakes kicks off in style at Clonmel

There were some very exciting performances in the Produce Stakes at Clonmel last week, led by the win of Swords Diamond. His win took over the quickest time of the year by more than 20 spots with only one time faster in 2025. Graham Holland looks to have another exceptional type on his hands.

It was the final of the Shelbourne 600 over the weekend won by Mydras Opinion, but it was the win of Droopys Map that takes the POW award. A finalist in the National Puppy last year, he produced a quickest of the year over 575y, roaring five and a half lengths clear come the line.

Clona Chase has won five of his six career starts, adding a very smart win at Tralee to his credit. That was a decent effort in the second round of the Kasko Stakes. He is from a repeat mating that threw Ower Cracker the first time and is a half to the likes of Unanimous Leo, Rioja Joey and Hopes Kitty.

There was a quickest 525y of the year at Waterford from Fahee Phantom. He missed six months after the Irish Derby last year, with this being comfortably his best display so far in 2026. Hopefully this will have helped boost his confidence after missing out in the Select Stakes.

Another quickest of the year was produced at Dundalk. Toolmaker King clocked 20.86 over the 400y distance to lay down an early marker for the Irish Sprint Cup in the summer. A Time Juvenile Derby finalist last summer, this was the first time that he has raced over a sprint trip and it certainly appeared to suit him well.
