Irish Select Stakes winner has big English targets for new connections
There is an excellent new addition in the Craig Marston kennel, joined by the Irish Select Stakes winner Bogger Bob.
Marston sets out plans for Bogger Bob
Bogger Bob, Ireland's Select Stakes winner, has been bought by Monmore trainer Craig Marston and a team of his owners and could have the Steel City Cup at Sheffield and Eclipse at Nottingham as targets.
"It's quite a new syndicate I've got together and we purchased Im On Fire from the sales at Monmore," said Marston.
"We trialled him at Doncaster twice, and he did 16.76, before winning for us there on debut. So that was a good start and the idea was to purchase nice dogs at affordable prices.
"I've got some local owners of mine involved - Andrea, Jo, Adrian, Ian, Dave John, and Steve, who owns a share in Da Don with Mark Russell, Chris, whom I met through a Romford syndicate, and Andy Tait, who's based in Scotland with the Sunnyside prefix.
"Dave Wilson put a post up on Facebook about Bogger Bob, with another of Liam Peacock's in Bogger Chuck, so I thought, why not? We'll go for both!
"You don't see dogs of Bob's quality come on the market that often - and the deal has been done. "First things first, we'll give Bob a couple of weeks to settle in.
"I've got a plan in mind with a short-term and long-term target. I think we'll look at strong galloping tracks for Bob with the Steel City Cup and Eclipse in mind.
"Bogger Chuck, I feel, could be a surprise package. He's got a 16.44 run at Kilkenny - and Good Acclaim has done that sort of time - so we'll find him a few sprint opens before deciding where we go with him.
"Fingers crossed - and all that! You always need a bit of luck in this game but who knows where the journey will take us? I hope that before the year's out, we will add a couple of more nice sorts to the kennel.
"I've got a good bunch of owners who enjoy their greyhound racing and having some nice runners for the open-race circuit gives added spice, for sure."
Bogger Bob, an October 23 son of Callaway Pro Am and Bogger Megan, won the Droopys Stud Select Stakes Final at Waterford in May for owner and breeder Liam Peacock. Coming from last to first in the 525yd feature, he reeled in his heat conqueror Beanos Yank to score in 28.57 against a field which also included Magical Luka.
