Monday Open Report - Billingham-Hine double at Monmore
Open Race action featured at Monmore afternoon with five races in total across the sprint, four-bend and six-bend trips.
Bandanna Bono took the Ladbrokes.com 264 Open at 3.01, finishing well to win in a photo finish with quick away railer Makeadifference a short head back in second. Bono recorded 15.54 and rewarded those that backed him at 5/1.
Heat one of the Ladbrokes 630 Maiden at 3.19 went to the Kim Billingham-Hine-trained wide seed Thru The Roof who led late to win in 38.94. Thru The Roof has won in A4 and A3 grades over the four-bend trip in recent weeks and has now broken his six-bend maiden tag. He looks a nice type.
Droopys Expected took heat two of the Ladbrokes 630 Maiden at 3.57 to land the Kim Billingham-Hine double. The October 2022 son of Burgess Bucks was quick away and made all in 39.03. Race favourite Thor Odinson caught the eye in defeat, staying on well for second.
The Ladbrokes 264 Final at 4.16 went to the Richie Taberner-trained Aero Pattika who pinged out and made all in 15.31 to reward those that snapped up the 11/8 on offer from bookmakers. Holding Harry finished second from T6 with the forecast paying £13.87.
At 4.53 in the Ladbrokes.com 630 Open Race it was all eyes on Champys Girl in T2 and Droopys Maximus in T4 as the pair lined up at 8/13 and 13/8 in the betting market. Franco Eve led round from T5 but Champys Girl turned within striking distance, and it was race on. At the third bend, Farneys Wexford showed nice middle gears to hit the front, but he had Droopys Maximus on his outside and Champys Girl nipping up the inside. At the fifth bend, Champys Girl hit the front and powered clear, and it was all over bar the shouting for those that took the 8/13 on offer. The Ellie Field-trained railer went onto record 38.53 with a six-length gap back to Droopys Maximus in second.
Robert Short Treble at Nottingham on Monday evening
At 7.27 in the Arena Racing Company Sprint over the two-bend 305-metre trip at Nottingham, Popper Moody caused a shock at 20/1. The April 2022 son of Droopys Sydney broke mid-pack but paced up well into the corner and led the round. Odds-on favourite Coppice Rocket in T6 also attempted to do the same but was badly crowded, and Poppy Moody went on to record a ¾-length victory with Jaymir Lucy in second. The forecast paid a whopping £161.24. Well done if you found that one.
The Arena Racing Company Winner Of One Open Race at 7.44 went to early-paced wide seed Leelad (9/2) from T6. The Jill Llewellin-trained performer was quick away and made all in 29.05.
At 8.01 in the Arena Racing Company 480m Trophy all eyes were on Jetstream Breeze from T4. Sent off, the 8/15 favourite Jetstream Breeze stumbled at the start, and suddenly it was a wide-open event. Tiermana Rocky led round from T3, but it was Cul Na Braithre (7/1) won took the race from T1 the first of trainer Robert Shorts three winners on the evening.
Short landed the Arena Racing Company Maiden Standard Trophy at 8.36 with Pulleen Dasher (3/1) making all from T5 in 30.18. Mallogs Miley chased home the impressive winner but couldn’t close down the gap and was beaten 2 ¾ lengths at the winning line.
King Ezra (4/1) completed the Robert Short treble, taking the Bilmun Re-Union Trophy Open at 8.54 over the 480-metre trip. Ezra led at the first bend and went onto record 29.29 with Jaymir Arlo back in second.
Loxleys Forest (10/11) took heat one of the Stayers Trophy at 9.11, making all in 41.61 with Sambar Dream (15/8) taking heat two at 9.28 in 41.65.
Kelva Air (4/1) won the Arena Racing Company Maiden Dash Trophy at 8.19, beating favrouite Fairest View by four lengths in 15.06. Crafty Coco (10/1) took the other Maiden Dash Open at 9.46 also making all, clocking 15.22.
